Average food for the cost. Lasagne dry, seafood salad very 70s with grated cheese Desserts and friendly staff the redeeming factor.

We ordered crab meat in Mary Rose sauce for starters which perhaps could have benefitted from less sauce as the crab is so nice on its own! We then had: scallops and prawn rice (average) as well as one seafood combo platter - I liked it and felt it was well served given the extra goujons or breaded hot items.... More

The restaurant was busy but the staff managed to fit us in despite not having booked. The seafood combo was first class. Lots of well cooked fresh fish. My guests choose the salmon from the specials. Both looked great we a nice size piece of fish. The service was prompt. Overall a good meal.

We stayed st the Ayre hotel while in Kirkwall and after a long day we decided just to eat in the hotel. The restaurant was great with a good level of choice from fresh Orkney fish and seafood platters to Orkney beef. We all had something different and were all very happy with the portions, the taste and the price.... More

February is perhaps not the best month to holiday in Orkney but while many places are closed, we really enjoyed our evening meal at the Ayre zhotel. Service was efficient and friendly and the food was good

We stayed here for a couple of nights before visiting some of the other Orkney isles. Was in a good location right beside the harbour, but the room was basic and quite small. Everything was very clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly but the breakfast was of a pretty poor standard, didn't have any other meals. A... More

This is a lovely wee hotel with warm hospitality from the reception staff. Newly refurbished and all you would need. The waitress service breakfast could do with some training on custoner service as she looked miserable and could do with a smile. Other than that it is very good hotel in a perfect location. Parking at the front of the... More

Went out with friends to The Ayre - had heard lots of good reports and hadn't been for ages! Sat in the conservatory looking over the harbour. Food was very good, two of us having the hot and cold seafood (absolutely delicious!), one had steak fajita's and one the Orkney beef. I had to have a sundae for desert which... More

Really disappointed by a poor and overpriced meal. £7.20 for two glasses of soda water!!!! We both ordered chicken and Brie burgers. It came without the Brie, I spoke to the waitress who practically just stared at me. I then explained to another waitress who did apologise and said she would take money off the bill. She did not offer... More

This hotel was centrally located in downtown Kirkwall, and it was just a quick and easy 5-10 minute stroll from all of the main stores and sites in Kirkwall. The staff were extremely professional and friendly every single moment of the day, and they were always going out of their way to make sure my stay was comfortable. And the... More
