A coffee cafe and bar. Friendly helpful staff. We did not eat but had coffee and later returned for a beer and a wee dram. Nice place .

Nice atmosphere here, cafe by day, pub by night - though not every night, check when it's open. Usually some sort of evening music on when it is open and during the day you can here students practising as they come in and out for tuition. Nice little music shop on the same premises. Good choice of real local ales... More

We recently spent two weeks in Okrney, and really enjoyed stopping off at The Reel for coffee and baked snacks. The lattes I had were quite likely the best I've ever had, and enjoyed them so much that we wound up going back a handful of times for more!

We stopped by here one day for a snack and a drink. It had a great atmosphere. The food and drinks were good, and the staff were very helpful - especially impressive as they were so busy. Recommended.

This is a fabulous bar. The evening that we were there there were a large number of people playing violins, guitars and piano for most of the evening. A couple of pints of Scapa Flow ale and it just gets better and better. Absolutely superb!

I've been here several times for lunch and really enjoy the food and atmosphere. The menu has lots of options with lots of local names used for different types of toasties/sandwiches/paninis. Very quick and top notch service

This is a cafe bar with lunches and snack available. To the rear, the rear there is a well stocked music shop. There are regular evening music events and sometimes you can listen to local music groups as they go through paces. A great local cultural experience in Kirkwall.

We didn't come for a meal, but for the Saturday night music session. The bar was open for the session (8pm to whenever). By mid-evening, there were 12 fiddlers, piano, mandolin, banjo, guitar, and flute all going at full tilt playing local/celtic music. Players ranged from students, to old-timers, to professionals. Seating was cramped (with that many players) but you... More

Great relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Lots a families and music at lunch time. Simple but tasty lunch menu with good range in choice of fillings for sandwiches, tatties etc (gluten free too) Very nice coffee! Bit of a wait for food though, just moderately busy and a little on the expensive side (£10 for a coffee and panini)

Popular venue for food, ale and music. Traditional music live many evenings. Also on site music shop and lessons. Central position and my favorite coffee and lunch venue

The Reel In 2002 the Wrigley Sisters returned to Orkney to live and set up their business, and in 2004 The Reel was established, allowing them to ‘put something back into’ the community of Orkney.’ "With both lasses having now settled back in Orkney their attention has turned to managing the ‘Reel’ – the sisters’ Centre of Music on Broad Street in Kirkwall. The centre has experienced phenomenal success in the few years it has been open, to the extent that it has recently moved to the building formerly occupied by VisitOrkney, next to St Magnus Cathedral. "Aswell as a being home to many folk & blues sessions and the Orkney Strathspey and Reel, The Reel also holds various classes in many different instruments taught by a wealth of talented teachers. The Reel offers and encourages a fully ‘inclusive’ approach, catering for all members of the community, especially families, and all age groups. The existing aesthetics, atmosphere and management approach fully encourages, supports and positively impacts upon this ethos. The management’s existing attitude and approach to providing a high quality and friendly customer service is also considered exemplary.
