Seven adults and two very small children. We descended on this pub unannounced, all hungry and wanting lunch. It was a little difficult to find - I wonder if management have tried to put up small signs from the Solent walk - that would assist non-locals. (About 1/4 mile from Solent walk in total. Go through gate from walk, turn... More

Popped in whilst on a nice walk. The pub and garden are lovely. The beer was good not too overpriced kept well. Nice menu looks like local food the duck was great. However!! I don't think I've ever had my food thrown on the table before! No manners had to ask for condiments. Nobody returned to ask if we were... More

Very convenient location for some great walks - the only negative really is the limited parking but we were lucky enough to find space. The food was very good, vegetables well cooked and plentiful. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Will definitely come again.

Went for a lunchtime get together. As always the food was tasty and substantial.Chequers is good for pub food and Sunday roasts. It is the best place to see the rugby six nations. A great crowd descend on the main bar the courtyard and the marquee. All ages create a great atmosphere and plenty of banter. The well kept real ales... More

we chose to go to this pub to celebrate our 14th anniversary and we were not disappointed. Good choice on menu, and fantastic food. Staff and service both very good. It was a Saturday, so quite busy, and lucky we booked. We walked over from Hurst View campsite. A nice off road walk there, which was very dark on the... More

We went for lunch on the May Day Bank Holiday - we'd only booked last minute, and although the carpark was rather packed, it's a bit like the TARDIS inside and seems to absorb a lot of people without feeling crowded. Service was prompt and friendly, and our food came quickly. Everyone was pleased - fish and chips, scampi, duck,... More

We walked here from Hurst View camp site for an evening meal. We were surprised to find the place almost empty, but the layout is such that we didn't really notice once we sat down. The food was lovely, the beer and cider were very good and the service was great - really friendly and welcoming.

With such a wonderful setting, a country pub in the back lanes, I want it to be better. Grassy garden with mono-wooden tables, marquee with blaring sports coverage and a dark interior through a strangely euro-beer celler courtyard it doesn't quite work for me. Try harder to deliver trad English pub in trad English counrtyside and you'll get my vote...but... More

Ate here as a family of 4 on Mother's Day. When we arrived it was fairly quiet. The menu was not too big but had a good selection. When ordering I asked if one of the children could have peas instead of baked beans. This was met with a bit of a huff and how the kitchen couldn't go "off... More

I reviewed this pub a couple of years ago and gave it 3/5 'average, could do better'. Needless to say, our visit today was a vast improvement, which is pleasing as the Chequers is in a great location and ideally placed for a pit-stop after a walk round Oxey Marsh and the Keyhaven/Lymington nature reserve just round the corner. Four... More
