Whilst visiting relatives in Devon, we stayed at The Bedford two weekends in a row. Breakfast was our first experience of the restaurant, wich a great selection of cereals, pastries, juice, etc. and then a choice of cooked breakfast. The full Devon breakfast was excellent. We also had lunch there on one of the weekends. I had a lamb burger,... More

I honestly was not expecting food like we had at the Bedford hotel. My friend brought us here on good authority and pulling up to the place it had a certain charm to it. Inside via the car park the hotel could be described at dated but not in a necessarily derogatory sense. Red plush carpet, old pictures and paintings,... More

Ate here the three evenings we were resident in the hotel. Food is amazing! Beautifully presented and did not have to wait long for each course to arrive.

we met family here for lunch in the brasserie, the menu was surprising to say the least, everything is covered in sauces, and heavy, no real light options or fresh delights. The room is tired and has the feel of a retirement home! The staff are very nice, polite, attentive and ensured we got all we ordered, but the food... More

Excellent quirky and full of character. Staff were busy with pre-Christmas events and socials, but were always happy to help. We took over one of the quieter corners to relax in after performing / attending a concert across the road. Excellent service in there as always. (Didn't eat this time - but the food is excellent as well!)

We have eaten and visited many times and have attended Christmas functions too so was really looking forward to this particular Christmas party. Canapes were lovely but were not offered to everyone and the waitress just walked around with the plate not asking people either. Napkins would have been a help as the crab cakes were large for canapes and... More

Had a meal here as part of a business meeting. Had to pre-order because of the size of the group but the food was a inconsistent. Very nice hot smoked salmon starter but the main fish course (hake) was dry and overcooked. Having said that the presentation was good for both courses so proves it can be done.

Spent one night in this Hotel on a visit to Tavistock. Room was well appointed, service was good including the Reception staff and a good bar for an evening drink.. Hotel is well situated right in the centre of the town and the breakfast, although not the quickest of service was very good when it came, I would not hesitate... More

My husband and I had my birthday dinner in the restaurant. We found the atmosphere a bit stuffy. While my meal, the smoked chicken tagine, was tasty, my husband's dish, beef and Jail Ale pie, was not.

Management response:

Thank you for you feedback on your recent dinner at the hotel. I am sorry our restaurant was not to your liking, if you were to return at any point I would suggest dining in the bar for a more informal atmosphere. More
