We visited this evening as a party of six, including 4 vegans. We'd booked in advance and Angi the head chef was so helpful - they always have a vegan option and happy to accommodate suggestions with a bit of notice. The vegetable lasagne with...More

Recently moved to Sidmouth and found the Balfour as our nearest walkable-to pub. Have been three times on a Friday evening and found the food good, the drinks well-priced and the staff friendly. Some recent reviews suggest a need for settling down on the food...More

We visited last night around 7.00. We have visited TBA in the past and wanted to see its refurb as well as support it. We planned to eat. First impression good, then noticed the empty tables with plates still on it, another with several empty glasses. After a wait to be served, sat at a table which still had empty glasses. These were removed after a while. Went to order food, was told to speak to a man who had been tapping a screen at the bar since we arrived. As there were a few others around him holding menus we gave up. The pub wasn't that busy, altough there was a lot of noise and loud music from the blokey area, they seemed to be enjoying themselves, but for those wanting to eat, not very pleasant (the areas could have been divided by a wall/door). We didn't receive a welcome as we do in other establishments, management need to work on this, plus the quick clearing of tables. We will visit again as we want to try the food, but suggest management of The Balfour take themselves and their staff to The Anchor in Sidmouth to see how a very busy, popular and welcoming pub works.

Description
Exciting times. The Balfour is sceduled for a complete refit in January 2016 and will close at that time for a period of about 6 weeks. Unfortunatley our kitchens will remain closed until after the refit but watch out for our re-opening party !!! Until then we would be pleased to see you for an excellent pint of ale or maybe a game of pool and our garden is still open for you to enjoy. See you soon, Ron. We are a family run pub on the outskirts of Sidmouth. Our facilities include a public bar, a lounge bar, a restaurant, a skittle alley and large enclosed garden with play area. We have an award winning chef who personally sources all of produce locally. We are proud of the standard and quality of our food and this is achieved by having preparing fresh food to order using locally sourced ingredients. As well as lunch and evening meals we offer a Sunday carvery. We are a Cask Marque accredited pub and we pride ourselves in the quality of our ale. We also offer a wide range of ciders, spirits, wines and soft drinks. This year we are proud to sat that we were awarded a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. Come along and visit us and enjoy a freshly prepared meal, a cool drink and a warm welcome, booking is advisable. Or why not book to have your business meeting, wedding or birthday party with us. We enjoy working with our customers to arrange their special function. We look forward to welcoming you to The Balfour Arms.
