Sidmouth is a lucky little town to have two great restaurants. I visit Sidmouth one or twice a year to visit my aging parents. On this most recent occasion we went to the Salty Monk which we hadn't been to for a couple of years which was a mistake. It's a smallish restaurant with a nice relaxed atmosphere, a nice... More

Dated restaurant lacking in charm and any atmosphere. Greeted by unsmiling waitress who informed us we were half an hour early. Average food, not particularly well seasoned. Gave impression of trying to create a fine dining experience but falling far short of expectation.

We are sorry to learn that you didn't enjoy your meal with us and we are also very surprised after your comments made to us at the time. You are right we are certainly not a fine dining restaurant, we offer an a la carte menu with snacks, starters, mains and desserts, all made ourselves from local ingredients. However, we... More

We had an evening meal here to celebrate an anniversary recently and it was a fantastic experience. The service was excellent and the food even better! Every course was presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. We can't wait to return.

I would never have known about this place if it wan't for my partner's uncle being a fan already. A great non alcoholic cocktail to start with great fruit jiuces. Then some really tasty starters before moving onto the wonderful mains. None lf us had a pudding but i can imagine that they are just as special. Really helpful and... More

The Lady Orthopod booked the Salty Monk for a birthday treat for me (66, thanks for asking), her sister and brother in law. We recently moved to Sidmouth and have been sampling local eateries, along the way being very underwhelmed by Neil's which often scores highly with others. It was a Monday night and we ordered from a combination of... More

Our family had a wonderful evening meal here, the team catered to our children's dietary requirements absolutely magnificently, producing their own special menu for them. Hosting and service were flawless and the food a delight all round. This a lesson in the very best customer service.

We had a party of eight with three different diets, including two children who MUST have a fat free diet. The restaurant not only produced a choice of two items for all three courses for them but printed the children their menu, like the rest of us. The freshly baked bread included fat free bread for them and we all... More
