We stayed here with two other couples,it was an ideal and convenient meeting place, stayed one night with dinner. Very old building ,beware of steep and narrow staircases , rooms were just ok and clean, reception ,restaurant and bar service were quite good, so ok for a night ,not sure would want to stay longer. Free parking a bonus. We had... More

What a disappointing visit this was, warm, or cold tea, coffee was just as bad, no one came in to ask if we needed anything, when we first got there and was shown into the room there was no light's and no one seemed to know where the light switch was, so there we sat until a member of staff... It's fair to say I was going to need some persuading to get me through the doors of the George's restaurant...afternoon tea with free-flowing prosecco for £25? That ought to do it! The bar area of the George is grotty to say the least - sad looking sofas even the most desperate of charity shops would refuse to take, suspect... More

At the George for a group booking for lunch (pre ordered) so they knew we were coming and what we were going to eat. The chicken was a little dry and lacked flavour, the gravy would have been more suitable for beef. The vegetables (broccoli and red cabbage) were OK but the potatoes were hard and the food wasn't well... More

The service was also great, we were asked where we would prefer to have our afternoon tea and we decided on the lounge. the staff were very thoughtful and could not do... More

This restaurant is so past its prime. Cutlery cheap, table lightly tacky, food reasonable at best. The charming staff didn't lift the experience, will not be eating there again.

We had lunch here and loved the relaxed seating areas.Very friendly staff with nice food made this a very pleasant stop in what is a slightly eccentric old pub/hotel.

We haven't eaten here for a while because things had really gone down hill, and sad to say they haven't changed either !! The place used to be really busy but it was dead. The staff look bored, and it took ages to be served. The menu has really changed, and all the cream teas have gone ! The selection... More
