We were given a gift card for afternoon tea and on a dark winters afternoon we went for tea. One of us is a diabetic and this was taken into consideration. The afternoon tea was explained to us and we were given extra savoury things to replace the sweet things one of us could not eat. The savoury parts of... More

The publicity for the Salthouse's Valentine's evening dinner read "In The Name of Love -... a romantic night to remember". So perhaps a glass of bubbly as we arrived? A rose on each table? A romantic red candle? Maybe the odd heart shaped balloon (tasteful, of course), perhaps a heart-shaped choc with the coffee? Romantic music for sure - a... More

I hadn't been to the Salthouse for a couple of years, so wondered if it could live up to my past experiences. I did not have worried the food was excellent, very fresh and tasty. Staff were attentive and polite Well worth a visit and I will ensure that I do not leave it as long again before returning

My husband and I had been to the cinema and wanted to go for a bite to eat. I'd been passed the hotel a couple of times and it always looks nice, funky decor and moody lighting. They had a table available so we went in... Our first drink ticket got lost so we did wait a little while for... More

Having read some bad reviews, we were a bit apprehensive about going here. First impressions were good, service good. Menu has no prices which is the first time I have seen this. Ordered the scallops for starters and was not to bad, chorizo slightly over cooked. I ordered the steak and the wife had haddock for mains. No steak knife,... More

It was a chilly morning and was here for breakfast. The place is quite cozy overlooking the harbour, great service with tasty breakfast.

We stayed in the hotel and booked a table in the restaurant for the evening. The restaurant decor is quirky, and the tables well set out and perfectly lit. The service from the waiter was fantastic, he informed us that they taste the food personally and was very honest with his recommendations. We skipped the starter, unfortunately, and went straight... Lovely surroundings, great ambience and wonderful afternoon tea especially for my coeliac wife, possibly the best we have ever come across. Only negative once we had our food and tea we became oblivious to the staff (albeit they were very nice). No check back, forgotten drinks and having to ask for more tea. The food deserves a five star rating,... More

Been here a couple of times, also stayed overnight on one occasion. The food was the best, the service was the best. Great menu, had steak cooked to perfection with lovely accompaniments. Husband had different steak but also very good. The staff were on hand to top up the drinks without asking even though it was quite busy. On the... More

Lovely food but husband nearly broke his tooth on a piece of buck shot in his partridge breast meal, my lemon tart with cherry sorbet was way too sour, but overall a nice meal but very overpriced.
