My sister in law treat me to lunch at Swell, so I didn't like to complain at the time. We had a grazing board and said to the waitress that we would order something else to eat afterwards. We were fancying sharing a cheese plate) We had a cocktail to start then had to go looking for someone so we could order some wine. The waitress never came back to see what else we wanted to eat, and so we just gave up. We would have ordered another glass of wine and the cheese plate so they missed out on a sale there. The ladies at the next table had finished their lunch and sat for about half an hour, with their plates in front of them, they had to go and ask for the bill. We had to go and ask for the bill and ended up going across the road to the Mullaloo Beach Hotel for our glass of wine. such a pity as the food was nice and the setting is lovely.

My hubby & I had brekky for the first time at Swell on Sunday, 8 March. Food was excellent, delicious and well presented. The portion sizes were quite substantial. The buttermilk pancakes were to die for. The bacon & eggs benedict was delicious and the addition of the hash brown completed the dish. Great menu choices.
Negatives - Our hot drinks were luke warm/almost cold when they were served. (short macchiato and an espresso).
Although staff were friendly, service was not great. We did not receive any water for at least 15 mins after arrivals and staff took some time to take our brekky order.
Prices were a little on the high side but that was overlooked by us as the food was delicious.

Sunday breakfast..
we ate here with my folks last Sunday. The view is stunning. The service slow and is lacking leadership. We waited 40 minutes for coffees and over an hour for food. There was sloppy service of coffee and the waitress dumped coffees on the table (spilling them) and looked upset when I told her part of the drinks order was wrong. There was a large team serving the beverages and they were struggling to get things right.
When the food arrived, it was ok. The eggs were done well but the bacon looked greasy and the bread rather plain. For the prices they are charging I had higher expectations.
I think they need to take less bookings as they clearly cannot cope. The ingredients need to be a higher quality for the prices they are charging. I have eaten here before (during the week) and it was a better experience (although I felt the food was pretty average). The service needs improvement on the weekends.

If your restaurant manager is that rude what hope is there for the rest of the staff. No customer service skills at all .. $70 for two very average breakfast then spoken to like a school kid.. in front of a room of customers... live local will spread the word... plenty of better cheaper options near by ... UNBELIEVABLE 😱

I have been here 4 times now and obviously not at my own choice. Lets start with the positive. Location, great view but you are not allowed to enjoy it. Twice the party I have been with have asked for the sea view when booking but on arrival the seats were not available. However, there were empty window seats for the entire duration of the stay. This has been observed on all four occasions and when you ask if you can have a window seat you are told categorically no they are reserved. Goodness knows who for as they always remain empty.
The food. The food is okay but nothing out standing. The biggest disappointment is the attitude of the staff . They are arrogant and rude, trying to take half eaten plates away so as to rush you out of the door. Do your self a favour, go to DOME. The food is of the same quality, its cheaper and the staff treat you like a client not a dog turd. Dont worry that you can see the sea as you wont be allowed to see it at Swell

Hello Bigcaintoad. Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to hear your experience at Swell was disappointing. We do pride ourselves on our service and food. Your comments do concern me. I would love to hear more about your experience with the staff member so that we may address this, even if it is an off day for an employee, this still is not acceptable. If you could please email me at pr@swellkitchen.com.au that would be great.
In regards to the balcony, the fairest system is to allocate the balcony requests according to the date of booking. As you are aware, we are complying with Government restrictions regarding spacing and the number of guests allowed. We have removed more than 1/3 of our tables and chairs to allow for this. Some tables may remain empty for several reasons, spacing of guests, late arrivals, no shows and the list goes on. We always endeavor to do our best to allocate a balcony table where possible. In future, to avoid disappointment please book with us early. Fortunately, no matter where you sit in Swell, whether it is on the balcony or inside, you can still see the glorious Indian Ocean.

After hearing about how good the breakfasts were, we decided to give their dinner a try and we where not disappointed, three different dishes were ordered and all tasted great. the service was prompt and friendly, I had the ribs and rump and the ribs were so tender they fell apart. it was a lot of meat but there was enough sweet potato to accompany both the rump and the ribs. [delicious !!!!] the same goes for the lamb shoulder and salmon dishes. the wine was very expensive and the rose was not worth the price, but the food made up for it.

I would userly rate this venue high as we have had no problems before, however I made a phone call booking for a family birthday dinner for my mum, 15+ members. I requested to be sat outside, I was told it could be arranged. We got to the venue for the table not to be ready, worse yet we were seated inside. This is a small venue we had pregnant women, small children, seniors. This was not appropriate. We requested we take the 3 free tables outside, there was no problem. However we did not want a tab, as we were a big group, there were people who didn't know each other, people who didn't stay long. This lead to further confusion as there were groups who wanted dinner and who wanted nothing. This was a big headache. We were also charged $25 because we cut our own cake and fed 3 children. The manager then tried to argue that the cake was cut therefore $25 fee and then soon explaining to the lady that we cut the cake for 3 children and 1 pregnant woman, she tried charging us $2.50 the swell gained about $600 of our group and it wasn't enough. I can't believe we had to aruge this charge. WOULD NOT recommend ever again and has lost regulars and will be letting our nearest and dearest know of the insults.

A fantastic venue for a beach front location. We booked one day in advanced for a Saturday lunch and were lucky enough to receive a perfect table on the balcony overlooking the ocean. The venue was busy, jam packed and a great dining atmosphere. Nice decor and a good range of seating options. The menu is limited, ranging from pizza, burgers and salads. We ordered the kids burgers which according to the kids were delicious, Unfortunately we could not say the same for the Caesar salad, this arrived with anchovies that were pickled and ruined the taste of a the Caesar salad it was really disappointing and it’s best not to mess with a classic. The menu needs revising with a few more options. Although the Ceasar salad wasn’t good we will still return as the service was fantastic with a view to die for as Mullaloo Beach is one of the best in the world.

We have been to Swell a couple of times for breakfast and I agree with several previous comments, it can be noisy and a bit crowded but this time, accompanied by another couple, we went there for dinner. The dining area has been cleared of a few tables and on the night we were there there was no intrusive noise. We were seated next to a window and were able to enjoy the view of the beach at night.
We were shown to our table and our delightful waitron, Maddie took our drink orders. The ladies started with a cocktail called "Apple Pie" which they both enjoyed very much, the blokes had a pint of draught beer. A suggestion would be to add a mid strength beer to their small selection, they only offer full strength at the moment.
The menu selection is small but well chosen and seems to have something for most people. We started off with Carpaccio from the "specials" menu, it was very tasty with a crunchy element which we couldn't identify but looked like a crisp noodle. The plate was filled with the Carpaccio and scattered with rocket and capers. We would definitely reorder this again.
For mains my better half and I ordered the 8 Hour Braised Lamb Shoulder Hash brown, heirloom carrots, roast shallots, carrot puree, jus at $36, it was delicious and if the jus was bottled and available, I would put it on everything. The lamb was "fall apart" tender and overall it was a dish we will definitely have again, our friends had the Crispy Skin Chicken Sweet and spicy coconut adobo sauce, rice cakes, lychee, herb & chilli salad $33 and the Mushroom Risotto with wild mushrooms, thyme, crispy enoki mushrooms, truffle oil, parmesan $24.50 with added free range chicken +$ 7.00. Both were enjoyed but my friend commented that for some the Crispy Chicken may be a little bit too spicy.
For dessert we had the really decadent Bitter Chocolate Orange Mouse scorched marshmallow fluff, blood orange sorbet and cinnamon churros $ 13.50 and our friend had the Trio of Ice-cream selection of gelato with hazelnut biscotti $ 11, both desserts were generous and beautifully presented.
The wine list is quite limited but popular varietals are relatively well represented. Wine by the glass is available on selected wines in each section, average price is $9.50 per glass but the bottles are not cheap, the cheapest I could see was $39, the tap beer is also quite pricey at an average of $13 a pint.
The night was most enjoyable, the "A Team" was definitely on duty in the kitchen, the food presentation was "fine dining" standard and extremely well cooked and we can't wait to visit again.
I would however suggest that anyone wanting to visit Swell check their menu online beforehand, it is quite limited and not cheap so you need to ensure that there is actually something there that you will enjoy.

Now that WA is into phase 3, so many people were out and about today enjoying the weather, even though it was overcast. The Swell Cafe was busy and because of that the service was a little slow which was a tad annoying as we thought we only had 1 1/2 hours for lunch but it was extended which was much appreciated.
The food was nice - the menu doesn't have a huge range of food to chose from, but it is well presented, and tasty.
The setting is lovely as it is overlooking the Mullaloo Beach.
I would come back here again.

Hello Georgie, Thank you for your feedback. It was certainly wonderful to be able to accept more customers into Swell the day you visited on the 6th of June. I do apologise that the service was a little slow on that day. Fortunately we are back in the rhythm. We have some exciting changes to the menu that Head Chef Jeremy is working on so watch this space!

Returned after a visit in September & would have given 5 stars for the beautiful food & brilliant service by the lovely Brit who remembered us. Unfortunately, we were “unhappily greeted” by the waitress Sophie on arrival & were completely forgotten about by her even though the restaurant wasn’t full when we had requested a balcony seating in our booking. We found her mannerism quite unfriendly & aggressive making it uncomfortable to approach her. Having worked in hospitality for over 30 years myself, it doesn’t take that much to smile & make your guests feel welcome of which all other 3 waitresses did. Watching other arrivals throughout our 2hr seating continuously being seated on the balcony & being ignored by her was the only negative from an otherwise lovely celebratory lunch. Highly recommend the magnificent Tasting Grazing Platter to share which we had accompanied with whitebait. Our second visit proved the food is consistently high quality produce & the chocolate mousse with churros for dessert is to die for & plenty big enough to share. Wine selection (mainly the beautiful Margaret River region) was lovely & a vast cocktail selection available. View would have been even better if we had been eventually seated on the balcony as requested before all the afternoon coffee only visitors. Understood this may not be available when we booked, however Sophie’s situational awareness & mannerism needs to be improved to provide quality service.

Thank you for your feedback Travelbugs1004. We are delighted you found the food and Britt's service brilliant. We are surprised to hear your feedback regarding Sophie as this is very out of character for her and we will follow this up. We are so delighted you have found the quality of our food and produce consistently high as this is something that we constantly strive for here at Swell. If in the future, if you would love a balcony table, to avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend that you book as early as possible since we do prioritise balcony requests according to the date of booking. We look forward to seeing you again one day soon.

My wife and I visited Swell for breakfast and had to sit inside as the restaurant was the busiest I've seen it. We still had ocean views, though, which is the main selling point here.
The breakfast menu is a good one with some difficult choices to make. Both our dishes were well cooked and tasty.
Service times were a bit slow but I suspect part of that was due to the effort they put into making sure the food is tops.
I'd certainly visit again.
Recommended.

I'm hesitant to give 4 stars but feel like our experience was higher than just "average". Beautiful restaurant looking right over the ocean, nice decor and overall lovely feel. Booked here for a Sunday breakfast with 8 people well in advance. The service was almost non existent, we were seated for at least 20 minutes before anyone asked if we wanted any drinks. Since it took so long for drinks, we ordered our food as well which I'm glad we did as the waitress returned shortly after advising that their was at least a 30 Min wait on food. Despite the wait, the food was presented well and enjoyable. Prices are on the high side for the smaller portions but we expected that for coastal location.

My group of five sat on the balcony and the view was spectacular. Our waiter was very friendly and efficient. The fruit smoothie tasted light and refreshing. The fish and chips were a lert down. Too many chips, flavourless mushy pea accompaniment and no side salad. The fish was fine. My lamb koftas were too sausage like in texture and flavourless. The roasted chickpeas added good crunch. The ceaser salad was overpriced and need to come with chicken at that price. I would cut out music as it is very loud when full of patrons.

Lovely view.
Ok service.
Was served a breakfast that was apparently gluten free but turned out it wasn’t. I ate half the piece of toast that contained gluten and have been sick all day. Thankfully I’m not a coeliac, just intolerant of gluten. Could have a much worse situation if I was completely allergic.
Paid $25 for two eggs, avocado and spinach with toast I couldn’t eat.
Bit disappointed.
