The Grand Café could have been a national treasure and pride. Unfortunately the poor service undermines any illusions of what it could have been. Arrogant, humorless, slow waiters are just a provocation for guests who want to enjoy a light meal or a glass of...More

I wanted us to eat here for the restaurant's historic significance - many Norwegian artists met here for soirées including playwright Henrik Ibsen. The building was built in 1874 & its exterior is beautiful. Apart from the colorful mural depicting the literary soirées & famous...More

Returned twice, ate inside and it was relaxing and comfortable though most were outside in the sun enjoying the street vibe. Had the salmon and carrot salad first time, the warm lamb salad 2nd time and hubby the crab pasta. The food quality is excellent,...More

Very good hamburger with a Rioja wine, @ an iconic café in Oslo. It was just before is revamping and looking at the fotos after the renovation, I prefer the old decor. Nevertheless the Grand Café is an excellent place to eat well (the price...More

This cafe was an institution in Oslo. My expectations were therefore rather high when I went here for lunch on the outdoor tables. The carpaccio of horse was too salty, but quite good. However, the service level was completely absent. The waiters completely ignored me...More

The reopened Grand cafe is renovated in a cool, Nordic look. Very nice. We came for lunch and the food is really tasty and well composed. Professional service, swift delivery and medium prices makes it great for business lunch.

We went here for a very late lunch one day. Food is on the expensive side, but was outstanding. I highly recommend the risotto and smoked salmon. The staff was very friendly. When they inadvertently brought us the wrong dish, at least three people came...More

With so many places on the main boulevard to try, we couldn't resist the classic charm of the Grand Hotel Cafe on a sunny day. Great spot for people watching and the food was very good. Try something fishy!

We had a long layover during our travels in Oslo so we took the train into the city to explore. We happened upon this restaurant and we are so glad we did. We ate outside and enjoyed a taste of Norway. We had the spelt...More

I had the asparagus risotto and sat at a table outside to people watch as it is next to the square. The bread and entree were delicious, the service was fast and friendly. Not too pricey either.

Description
The Grand Cafe first opened in 1874. In the restaurant, Henrik Ibsen would eat his daily lunch and Edvard Munch once offered to swap the painting ‘Sick Girl’ in return for 100 steak dinners. Now, more than 140 years later a new era has begun. A new restaurant and an extensive wine cellar. We are looking forward to welcoming new and returning guests, starting the next chapter.
