Had a pleasant lunch joining a delegation from Myanmar. This is the right place to bring foreign guests for lunch if you want to show something old in Oslo..the restaurant was established in 1857, but the building is from 1680ies. The room we stayed in the second floor brought you back to ancient times. We got halibut for main meal... More

This is the season for the atlantic cod, Skrei, and when it comes to fish, Engebret Cafe is an excellent choice. We had the cod loin and artisan beer from Lofoten. The atmosphere at Engebret is really nice and service is what you should expect from a pricey restaurant like this. All in all a pleasant meal.

Very traditional place, perhaps a bit stuffy, but we had a very enjoyable evening with good service and food and. The wine selection is also decent and not too pricey. The reindeer carpaccio and the whale meat were particularly tasty and portions are more than generous.

Very interesting place at Bankplassen with old interior. Best of all the good food. Tradisonal norwegian christmas disse server with wine and/or aquavit and beer. Reservations needed several months before visiting at christmas time. In summer also outside sitting.

This is - allegedly - Oslo's oldest restaurant and one should visit as much for the history as the food. Full of character and fascinating photos and documents on the walls, Ask the staff to tell you something about the various rooms and what happened in them. And oh yes, the food - is pretty good too!

I had seen this restaurant on Trip Advisor and while it sounded phenomenal, it wasn't necessarily on my list. However I stumbled upon it one night so decided that I might as well have dinner there. Boy was that a good decision! I had the sampler platter as an appetizer so I could try different local specialties such as whale... More

Engebret is a quaint yet elegant restaurant within walking distance to the city centre. If you are looking for something traditional yet tasty, Engebret is the right choice. We learnt that it was the oldest restaurant in Oslo, more than 150 years! We liked the decor a lot, it had a warming, genuine feel to it. The mussels soup was... More

The restaurant
Guests enter the low corner building originating from the 1700's, Oslo's oldest restaurant, where staff and guests could celebrate Engebret Cafe's 150th anniversary in 2007. When it opened, the restaurant was located right opposite the old Christiania Theater and was often visited by actors and audience.
Engebret also provides banquet services, designed to accommodate both small and large gatherings.
