It is such a pleasure to be in such a traditional Kaffeehaus where you can sit for hours sipping your espresso or cappuccino reading newspapers. Rumor has it, that Café Ritter is the only one Kaffeehaus in Vienna that is ironing the newspapers before putting in the news rack. I was there for breakfast which was indeed delicious.

This famous cafe is close to our hotel and so has been our choice for breaks and even for breakfast. It is not cheap, but yet fairly priced. The place is old, in style and form of service, but yet great. The waiters are very traditional and work hard to be both efficient and to please the customer by their... More

This is one of the old-world cafés in Vienna. We enjoyed a very good breakfast in here; there are some very nice breakfast menus on offer.

Traditional Viennese café near Mariahilferstrasse: good strong coffee, fast and effective service. We did not have anything to eat this time, but the cakes looked delicious!

Not to be missed, just 2 stops on the number 2 tram from the centre of the city,Cafe Rita is an old traditional Cafe that has been gracefully refurbished, with an ultra modern kitchen, ignore any old bad comments, this establishment had been taken over, completely new management, and has an excellent chef with a great repertoire of traditional dishes... A short distance from the centre of Vienna, the Ritter is back. Under new dynamic owners the Ritter is the place to visit when you are in Vienna. We went for a three course meal, the chef is great and interested in your feedback, great food at realistic prices, no queues, we felt we were back in the Vienna of... More

My friend and I ate twice in this place. First of all several words about the pleasant atmosphere. The tables are small and made of marble, the red leather sofas and special devices for reading newspapers. The food is also tasty, the soups, strudel and beer. We orded gulash and pumpkin soups. The gilash soup was very tasty and the... More

No good service at all. No big variety of sweets as in other cafés in Vienna. The whole room smells badly from the kitchen and for sure needs renovation.

the service is cold to say the least. This is the type of european cafe many tend to call "quaint", but the service is just plain rude. There are better places to eat in town.

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighbourhood Profile
Mariahilf
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
