We went for a simple fish meal which is what we got. They brought out the fresh fish on a platter and we picked out the sole. It was excellently grilled served with potatoes and greens. The Croatian wine was fine, not great, but we came for the fish. If you are looking for fish simply grilled to perfection this... More

A cosy Croatian fish restaurant and even though we were the only couple in the place (3rd Jan and very cold) we were not rushed, not too fussed and fed an amazing meal. We could have chosen fish of the day as shown to us on a platter but opted for the very varied menu. Waitress realised we were struggling... More

During our stay in Vienna we've had dinner here for two times, both were excellent: good service, nice and resolute waitress, good fish and good vegetable soup, excellent fresh and well grilled fish, potatoes and vegatables also tasty, good wine and a nice crême brûlée: we were totally satisfied. Also important to know: there were no tourists the two times... More

Superb Croatian fish restaurant. Hardly anyone was in on the night we ate there but that was everyone else's loss and our gain. The service was impeccable - they clearly love their fish which is brought in every day fresh from the Dalmatian Coast - with a wide choice of fish and other dishes. Our food was excellent full stop... More

Having just moved here from Spain, we were missing Mediterranean fish, and we definitely found it here. Really lovely quality fish, prepared extremely well and delicious accompaniments that really set the fish off. The staff are just lovely... Friendly and really attentive. I can see we're going to be regulars here!

It is not easy to eat good fish in Vienna. At least in my experience. However, in this location it is!! Spectacular Sole for two, grilled to perfection. Prices are not low, but not higher than average fish restaurants in the City where quality is much lower. And the service is friendly and professional, which makes almost imperceptible that they... Absolutely delicious meal. Even though it was out of the way, about a 7 euro taxi ride from the marriott where we were staying, it was well worth it. Tuna tartar (although it was really tuna carpaccio) was tasty and fresh. No fishy taste. The octopus main course was a huge portion and so tender. We shared the whole fish... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
