I can't understand how this place has such an high rating. It's a bare fast-food shop selling mini-size pre-prepared bread slices with various toppings. The idea may be nice as there's a good variety, but the quality is just of pre-prepared topping, not fresh or particularly tasty. No atmosphere or added value whatsoever. Considering the fact that you'll likely spend... More

We went here at the recommendation of Rick Steve's and it did not disappoint. We had multiple different sandwiches and they were all delicious and tasted fresh. We also had great juice.

Decent tasting open sandwiches costing €1.30 each. We had 6 sandwiches between the two of us (but we weren't very hungry at the time). Good selection of beers and I liked the prosecco too. Not many seats. We stood at a counter but that was ok as we were just looking for a quick bite before moving on.

We loved this sandwich shop and had great difficulty making a choice from the range. I went for salmon, sardine and herring all on delicious dark bread. The others had a pfiff but I stuck with mineral water. The sandwich ladies were all patient with hesitant tourists. The sandwiches are 1.30 each and at 12.30 there was plenty of room.... More

First heard about this place on Rick Stein's programme on Vienna and promised ourselves we would visit. Weren't disappointed - amazing range of open sandwiches. We had 4 between us and all were delicious. The tiny beers are the perfect size and great! Lunch under €10. Staff v. friendly too.

Second time visiting. First its cash only. And close late afternoon. A small little shop along the main drag and shops by Saint Peter Church and platz. Look up and you will see the large sign with its name. Down the side streer on the left hand side. Walk in. Pick your items. I usually got for four or five.... More

We saw this place being reviewed by Rick Stein on one of his 'Weekends' programme and had to give it a go. All of the sandwiches are priced the same so you just need to choose which ones you would like to try. You also get a small token which you can exchange for a beer at a different counter.... More

The sandwiches are very tasty and come in a myriad of flavours, such as herring, crab, carrot and cream cheese. They are small but good value - try two or three.

Saw this on Rick Stein long weekends, I was intrigued as I'm a big fan of open sandwiches being from Eastern Europe myself. Place is very busy as expected and there are practically no places to sit. I was shocked how small the sandwiches were! I don't think is worth the price, it's a piece of bread with a paste... More

Mini open sandwiches and a tiny glass of beer or an organic blueberry juice. A good, inexpensive lunch in this Viennese institution.

Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
