It started as a fancy sushi bar on a berlin hipster based staff, but it developed to one of my favourite treats. Although not a single asian cook is present, they have a wide range of authentic and on the other hand extravagant asian-like cuisine. I repeatetly try to reconstruct some of the dishes at home, failing in detail, but... More

I love to eat the tan tan don here. In all honesty i haven't eaten anything else here. But they've got alot of different things on their menu. I heard the sushi is good but i think the it's a little pricier here than some other sushi restaurants i know, so i think I'll skip on that one. Anyway the... More

Mochi is a nice Japanese fusion restaurant, with good food and attentive presentation of the dishes. What I didn't like that much is that the place is a bit too crowded and loud, tables are very small and you are forced to seat really closed to the other guests, so this is a bit affecting the atmosphere. Probably in the... More

We sat at the bar at 6:00pm....and it worked out well. The chefs were very splendid and funny and kind. We might have been the only ones not using chopsticks, how did everyone get so very cool ahead of us??? But the Mochi people were so nice to us anyway, and our afflictions. You have to get reservations, and good... More

A cosy and busy place, reservation is very much advised. Great fresh food, with excellent gyoza soup (a huge portion!) and splendid rolls.

I have been there twice now within 2 weeks and the result and impression was the same. The location is perfect. In the warm season sitting outside under the old tree - wonderful, but the uncomfortable chairs should be replaced! - Or do they just want to turn the tables more often? Inside its well furnished but very loud. The... More

Super cool and cozy Japanese restaurant that we went to off the back of reviews. We made the mistake of not reserving (don't make the same one!) but the staff were kind enough to seat us inside (a bit hot) by the door. (Ask to sit outside if you reserve!) We ordered the salmon sashimi and aubergine to start (to... More

Very good sushi in a trendy place. The restaurant is very small with also a small terrace. The place is often crowded, so be sure to book your table well in advance (for week-ends, 2-3 weeks in advance). That's maybe one reason that there are way more locals than tourists. Prices are reasonable (160 Euro for a family of 5).... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
