Lovely food, nice atmosphere - traditional Austrian cuisine. Lovely wine too. Great value. We've booked for our last night here.

We were in Vienna for 3 nights and stayed in a hotel nearby, we thought the food was great so we ate at this restaurant twice! If you wish to try authentic Austrian cuisine this is the restaurant to go to and the portions are big. Good value for money, great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Popped in here for Dinner one evening on the recommendation of our Hotel. Food quality was great and plenty of authentic Viennese choices. Two courses, several drinks came to about 55 Euros. The girls who are the waitresses speak enough English for you to be able to order!

Had dinner at this restaurant. We both ordered two courses, starter and main course. Our main courses arrived and we hadn't had our starters as the waitress had forgotten to place the order. We decided just to have the main courses but mine was the wrong one. Rather than wait a while for the correct main course to be cooked... More

If you are looking for a local friendly Viennese restaurant with good quality food at reasonable prices, then this is the place for you. We had the wiener schnitzel and it was delicious.

Serves a wide selection of traditional dishes. The food we had was not bad but also not good, so so. Certain is, you won't leave hungry! Service was kind enough and helpful, but seemed a bit inexperienced. Vegetables were generally overcooked. Knödel were too dry (maybe frozen). Tiramisu was large but dull, with too little taste. Overall the food was... More

I reached this restaurant through the bar entrance; I'm not sure if there is another entrance for the restaurant, but I was pleasantly sent in the right direction by the bartender. The restaurant booths are set somewhat close together into alcoves. It was somewhat like dining on a train car, but very nice nonetheless. It seemed to be a local... More

We had roast pumpkin and truffle risotto and the venison with cranberry ragout. All beautifully cooked. Friendly service , nice ambience and wine. All very reasonably priced for central Vienna.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
