The place is not very cozy, the 'decor' ranges between non-existent and very old; in general, you might have the first impression of a train-station restaurant ca. 1950 somewhere in Bohemia. But: The food, very traditional (although there is even a slight nod into the directions of vegetarians and vergans), very heavy, and very, very delicious. And the beer is... More

A bit confused but friendly and talkative waitress (from the professional perspective they service was pretty funny) nevertheless the meal was nice. I can recommend to visit it if You are somebody who likes the cuisine of the northern and eastern countries of former Austrian-Hungarian Empire.

Classic Bohemian kitchen served in a cosy, family run restaurant. Great food, generous portions, great service, reasonable prices. What is not to like? Zu den 3 Buchteln is not a restaurant that looks stunning when you pass by. The interior has not changed in more than a decade, but it just adds to the charm. On the menu are all... More

The affinities and ties between Bohemia and Austria are still alive. Zu den 3 Buchteln is a very simple, family-run neighborhood restaurant that cultivates this tradition. Their signature dish, Buchteln, is excellent and so are the Powidl Liwanzen. The menu includes several other Bohemian classics. An enjoyable culinary excursion into 19th century Bohemia.

Excellent Czech food in a nighbourhood restaurant. Obviously there are just two ladies runninng this restaurant: the cook and the waitress. So there might be some delay in being served.. I consider this part of the charm at this place: Decor, hospitality, pace take one back to the fifties and a more leisurly pace. First-rate food (try the svickovà/Lungenbraten), excellent... More

Décor is in need of some revamping- it is quite run down. Waitress was having a difficult time serving everyone although the place was not crowded. To be fair, everyone was satisfied with the food- and some in our group were very happy. I personally found it good but not great. Prices are very reasonable. Portions are smallish. They serve... This is a little gem hidden away down a rather uninspiring street off the Viennese beaten track. But so worth it. No fancy frills, just two Czech ladies cooking simple but filling and delicious food, washed down by Czech beer or Austrian wine. If you've had your fill of schnitzel in Vienna, this is the place to come for a... More

One of the best places to eat. Very good traditional bohemian food Thats old style vienna/bohemia food. Highly recommended. Interior is very old tho But you go there for food not for furniture and interior design

Staying in Margareten

Neighbourhood Profile
Margareten
This former working class district blends hip eateries and avant-garde cinema with a time travel into 1950s Vienna. Feel the district’s pulse at Margaretenhof and Schlossquadrat. 19th-century Margaretenhof is a local icon, yet has very non-Viennese architecture with its brick structure and cast-iron verandas. The nearby urban Renaissance castle of Schlossquadrat houses several restaurants. In the summer you can sit in its romantic shady courtyard over Schnitzel and Kracherl (traditional fizzy syrup). Siebenbrunnenplatz and its surrounding shops and grocery stores have remained virtually unchanged in the past 60 years: taking a walk there is like stepping into a 1950s film set. Speaking of movies, head to avant-garde cinema Filmcasino in the evening. It often stages foreign language cult films.
