We went twice in Vienna, mainly due to location and the promise of gluten-free pizza. Tasty food, great value, lots of gluten free options and good labelling. Result: happy family. Well recommended.

I have been to other Vapiano restaurants in Munich or Berlin. This place in Vienna is cosy, convenient for those staying in Novotel City Hotel on Aspernbrückengasse, which is round the corner. Serves italian cuisine - pizza, pasta, rizotto. You order meals at the counter and then take them to a cosy table with lamps built in to the center... More

Well organized, fresh Italian pasta for a low-mid range price. The employees are friendly and helpful, the food is a good-average quality. Perfect for occasions, when you do not want anything extraordinary just a well made pasta. Dog friendly place. :)

I call "Vapiano" chain restaurants A fast food Italian :). But good one. Had a chance to visit them in a few different countries and it's almost never disappointing if you know where you go. You can't call it real authentic Italian food but it's tasty and is cooked just in front of you. I visited the one in Vienna... More

Different approach to ordering and paying by providing each customer on entry with a swipe card organise your meal and drinks. The card is returned at end and totalled at till. Warm, pleasant surroundings with very helpful staff. Prices are very reasonable but nothing jaw dropping on menu. Pizzas thin based with generous toppings.

There are a few of these restaurants in the UK, but none near me. We first enjoyed it in Berlin, and we were pleased to find this restaurant down the road from our hotel. I think these restaurants sell good food at a very reasonable price. The concept takes some getting used to, but it's easy once you know how!... More

Very strange system where you charge dishes to a card which is then settled at the end. They save on waiters by you having to order and collect your food from various stations, eg. pizza, pasta/risotto, drinks. It was very tedious to stand around waiting to be served and have food cooked even when it wasn't busy. Food was ok... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
