This coffee house is one of the best in vienna. The inside architecture is beautiful and it is nicely decorated. The cafe is busy but the staff did a fantastic job seating my gf and I very quiclkly. The schnitzel is delicious and the pastries and coffee is exceptional. Enrico, our server, was fantastic and my gf and I enjoyed... More

Super experience here with a lovely atmosphere, historic surroundings and beautiful piano music in the evenings. We had had a large lunch and weren't very hungry so we just had a dessert and a glass of wine. The great thing about the Vienna cafes is that you can have anything from a coffee to a full meal. The torn pancakes... More

Often there's a queue at this café but it's worth waiting as the queue clears quickly. Great surroundings with wonderful cakes and coffees. We had lunch, the two course special and it was very tasty and great value.

Fantastic service, lovely pastries and a cozy ambient. Had breakfast on a Sunday, bacon and eggs were perfect, fresh fruit salad and orange juice. A must if in Vienna

We were lucky enough to enjoy several of the famous cafes while in Vienna but this was one of our favourites. The interior is very beautiful and a large selection of cakes and pastries. I had the pear cheesecake and it was perfect - proper cheesecake! We liked it here because the atmosphere was more relaxed than in some of... More

We visited Café Central after seeing the Spanish Horse show as the location is convenient. We fortunately arrived before the rush and only had to wait about 5 mins for a table but as we left the queue was 10 metres out the door. The décor was lovely with the vaulted ceilings and the cake displays at the entrance were... More

Cafè Central is a very historical and famous place. The interior is really beautiful and all the desserts look amazing! Not the best Sacher Torte but the "Schoko Zauber", which I tried, is definitely worth it. They had also live piano music. Highly recommended.

Made an effort to visit this historic cafe in Vienna. We had to queue for around 15 minutes to get in and when we did we were rewarded with a rather special schnitzel followed by a delicious strudel!

A cafe that i dont find a lot of specialities in. It is said to be famous, food and drinks are average, price is a bit high, and they charge you for every bread you eat, which i dont remember reading in the menu. Not sure if thats the local rule

Description
This famous traditional café with its 130 year history was first opened in 1876 and at the turn of the 20th century it was a popular meeting point for leading lights in the world of art, literature, politics and science such as Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud, Peter Altenberg and Leo Trotzki. Then, like today, the legendary literature café was a meeting point for all ages, regular guests, Viennese locals and visitors. Unique architecture combined with the best coffee specialities, classic Viennese cuisine and finest home-made pastries make every visit a special experience. Daily Live Piano Music from 5pm on! Reservations are strongly recommended to avoid waiting time - upon availability. Many thanks in advance for your understanding!

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
