This place is out of the touristic area but it is really nice. I recomend the home wine and lasagna al forno.

The best italian restaurant that I have gone in Vienna until this moment. They have good wines for a good price. I recommend you ask for the lasagna, it is really awesome. Yoy have to go until Josefstädter Strasse (Line U6 underground). Some meters and you will be there. Enjoy it.

An online search of top rated Italians had me come across this place and it was truly worth it! Bellini was served before a garlic and pesto dip... Selection for food was great and the staff very attentive! We was finished with a free shot (that was huge). I truly advice you visit when in Austria as its truly authentic... More

It is always a pleasure to eat in La Tavolozza where I use to be for over 20 years. Food is amazing - best fish, pasta, pizza and other Italian specialities. Service is very friendly and helpful, atmosphere is great.

Found this place whilst actually intending to go to Pizzeria Scarabocchio which was fully booked. Without a reservation on a busy pre-Christmas Sunday night they found us a cosy table in the back room with superb art all over the walls and ceiling!! Great menu with plenty of gluten free options for those like myself. Had a tasty beef dish... More

As we discovered the restaurant in the evening it seemed like it was closed because the light was dimmed. Inside we then discovered the very romantic and candlelit atmosphere. The food and service was outstanding, this is the place to go to experience a real Italian restaurant that has been there for already 36 years!

Large varied menu, charming interior. Ordered vitello tonnato and porcini risotto - both we were very good. Service was efficient, friendly but a tad aloof. Good wine selection by the glass, I had a few glasses of a really nice nebbiolo. Server brought us a complimentary shot of grappa with the check. Prices were reasonable. Recommended

Ordinarily reservations are required but we were early so we were seated without a problem. Only one waiter spoke English and he explained everything to us in detail and offered suggestions. The food and drink came quickly. The food was prepared and/or cooked to perfection. Price was reasonable. This restaurant is in district 8, away from the tourist area and... More

The food was great, prices were fair, and the restaurant was charming-- nice ambiance, candles on the tables, big pizza oven. On a Thursday evening, it was quite full. The staff was very nice as well. They even gave us a free drink after our meal. Lovely experience! We stayed at the Korotan hotel and this was a short walking... More

La Tavolozza is all class. The menu is varied and it is difficult to choose as there are so many options and it all looks amazing. The food is very fresh and has great flavour combinations. The bread and pesto to start the meal is divine. We ate a three course meal and each course was excellent. The food portions... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
