Very good traditional Viennese cuisine (Wiener schnitzel, goulash) and choice of local ales. Friendly staff and warm, cosy atmosphere.

If you want to enjoy classical Viennese dishes - good ones - , this is the place. I loved the decor - stylish, old, takes you back to beginning of the last century. Seems like locals like it too, which is a good sign. I believe this is what you can call a local and authentic experience and this was... More

Loved this restaurant which was a short walk from The Levante Parliament hotel we were staying at. The waiting/bar staff were very friendly especially as we hadn't booked so good sign when it is frequented by locals. Cosy warm atmosphere & really good value for money, food was authentic Austrian, tasty & well presented. Highly recommended if you want a... More

Very nice restaurant with Austrian cusine and very good service. Customers are mostly locals who visit this restaurant often. They close the kitchen relatively early, but even in this case they prepare something to please you. Good dine and wine.

Hi, We got a recommendation from the front desk staff at our hotel (Mercure Josefshof ), and it was worth it. Nice place, quite restaurant, it's nice to seat and talk no need to shut because of loud music. Our waiter was a nice person, we received a great service, and the food arrived few minutes after we ordered it.... More

No place to go if you arrive late at Vienna 9.30pm. Kitchen closes at 9pm not as promised on website at 11pm. Kind of angry now.

This restaurant provided for a wonderful evening. The food was hearty Viennese fare and portions were substantial. It had oodles of ambiance and lended itself to a relaxed easy going dining experience. Service was friendly and efficient if fell off a bit at the end which suited us. Very reasonably priced given the portions and quality of the food.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
