I had an excellent dinner at Salzamt. Better to reserve in advance, especially around Christmas time. Food is really authentic and high quality. I think it's difficult to find in Vienna a good typical Austrian restaurant that is not touristy. And this is one!! Dishes are very well prepared and served. They have an excellent service and a good selection... More

This restaurant is unusual. very understated entrance into a smokey bar which you quickly pass through into a smoke free restaurant. The restaurant is very basic in its fitting out. staff were very friendly. we went on a Monday and expected it to be not very busy but it was packed and we only just managed to get a table.... More

After a long day of walking we found this "hidden" restaurant in the 1st district. A little bit old school, but with very friendly staff and tasty food. I can highly recommend the pumpkin soup and wienerschnitzel!

Nice place with possibilities to eat outside. Service was good and the waiter was very patient waiting for eleven persons trying to split the bill... We all ate the schnizel and everyone liked it, so I guess I have to rate this as a good restaurant.

We had a very nice diner in this restaurant. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the food very tasty for an affordable price. We will definitely come back.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge. Big plus was that the interior is smoke free! Staff was very friendly, and helped with the menu, which was not translated to English. There were six of us: two couples shared: one had the schnitzel, which came with salad and potatoes. The second had salad and goulash, which came with spätzle.... More

We discovered this little gem at the end of our trip and it was the best food we had while in Vienna. It is tucked away in a quiet little platz next to the Rupercht Church. The food was superb! The periogis were excellent and I had a delicious pork dish with a gorgonzola sauce. Fresh salad and perfect apple... More

We were a group of 5 people - 2 German speakers. We had waited way too long for lunch and stumbled into restaurant salzamt. A very pleasant experience. The waiter was very welcoming - admittedly we were the only customers - as it was an odd time of day. The waiter answered all of our questions about the food and... More

A gem in one of Vienna's most enchanting corners. With a mix of light and rustic cooking, including good vegetarian, this is an insider's restaurant: authentic and casual and with a museum-worthy interior! Great wines from Austria.

We had dinner here on our first night in Vienna and had a very pleasant experience overall. Our waiter was a nice young man who spoke fluent english and he was extremely helpful to translate the menu for us since it was only in german. The restaurant itself is very nice located centrally right across from St. Rupert's Church 5min... More

You can find the Salzamt in the heart of the ,Bermuda Triangle'. It has been said that the Salzamt was the starting point of the Viennese Nightlife area (Bermuda Dreieck). The architect Herman Czech created this elegant and functional but playful space in 1983. White table cloths stretch throughout the dining area surrounded by wooden benches and Art - Deco chandeliers. The bar tempts with dimed lights and leather sofas to lounge in, creating a feeling of timelessness. On the daily handwritten menu one can find bistrot classics such as Vitello Tonnato or Beef Tatare but Viennese specialities like veal ,Wiener Schnitzel', Tafelspitz, diverse Gulash's as well international and eastern European dishes. There is a wide variety of Austrian and international wines with focus on the Bründlmayer in Kamptal. The beer selection features Viennese pils, Czech beer and white beer. Further fruit juices, fine spirits and local schnaps are on the drinks menu. In summer you can enjoy the outside seating on the calm and charming Ruprechtsplatz next to the oldest church in Vienna overlooking the Danube canal. Until 1824 the Salzamt was located here. The salt office was the salt taxing authority of the Habsburg monarchy. Today Salzamt is known as a meeting point for the arts and media scene and other luminaries, who enjoy this unpretentious place. If you want to dine and drink in a cozy atmosphere the Salzamt will take care of you.

In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
