I like spending money on good sushi... And this is good sushi. The fish is fresh, the preparation very good. But it's just too expensive. Not that I would mind spending that kind of money on sushi - but then it has to be world-class, which this isn't.

planned a trip to vienna for the weekend with my girlfriend where we arrived late in the afternoon... we decided to go to unkai after finding it online... although the waiters were really nice, my girlfriend and i had severe case of food poisoning... we both started feeling nauseous quickly after dinner (for the record, none of us had eaten... Dear carljulien Thank you for providing your feedback. It is important for for us to clarify your posting in which the accusation of food poisoning is in no way substantiated by facts (professional medical evidence, lab report). When seating by the bar and looking from the back the sushi-shef doing daily and hourly authentic Japanese menu, one might believe that he/she is at Tokyo seafood market. Hand made food with all tricks in front of your eyes... Everything in the menu is great. If you read complaints re service, mind that the chef still does everything with... More

Whilst the service at this establishment is warm and friendly the food leaves a lot to be desired. Japanese cuisine which is renown for fitness and subtlety of flavor has been completely massacred by the chef. The teriyaki chicken can swimming in an overly salty sauce and the unagi had a rubbery consistency. The tendon came with soggy tempura and... More

I went to the restaurant twice while I stayed at the hotel for 4 days. I have requested non-meat meals, though the meat dish was served (Matsukaze yaki). The quality of the cuisine was acceptable, but not well-balanced with the price, it could be more authentic. Please do not serve sauteed bean sprouts as a side dish in Kaiseki course,... More

We live here in Vienna and decided to spend our 25th anniversary there. The service was nice but the quality of food was poor and not worth the price. We were both very disappointed by our experience and will not recommend this restaurant to any of our friends in the local or international community. We had eaten there several times... More

The quality of food was good, nevertheless it was a bit pricey regarding service atention. For Classical Japanese food and a cozy place is excellent. If you are looking for something trendy or original I wouldn't go there.

There aren't many places to go for good sushi in Vienna and that means that Unkai can charge what they like. It's Nobu prices with Yo Sushi food. It's totally fine but nothing at all exciting. Service was slow and there were only around three other tables in for dinner. Service was friendly and the staff cheerful but not fast.... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
