Went for lunch on Saturday. The place was very busy, so booking probably advisable. Excellent service, and very good food. We had the seasonal special, which was goose, and it was absolutely perfect. The bill for two, with drinks was just north of 150 euros, so not exactly budget dining. Go for it! You only live once.

We had a delicious dinner with a great variety of wine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is well visited from residents. Therefore my advice: Make a reservation in time :-)!

We had a nice meal outside on a hot summer night. Food was quite good and the 'regular' servers were fine but those who brought out the dishes were absolutely clueless about what they were serving, how it should be served and even which cutlery. This is unacceptable for a fine dining restaurant. This is why their rating is only... More

Dear 1000Brussel, how right you have: too bad. Such a nice ambience with a view of the Mönchsberg and then ......... For the next summer, we will train our trainees better. These are all students of hotel specialist schools, so our future colleagues. Thanks for the hint. best regards Iris Niederreiter Front Office Manager More

This was a wonderful pace to eat with great service and delicious food. The food was local but more thoughtful than the usual wiener schnitzel. I had the mushroom ravioli which were delicious but it was quite a small portion....perfect for me but I had to also have a salad. A guy would not have found it enough. My husband... More

The staff were extremely friendly and assisted us with translation to English by providing an English menu, providing a modern twist on Austrian faire. Serves were not the usual massive schnitzel sized serves we have experienced in other parts of Austria but plenty big enough. Food was good.

This was a real treat. If you want to splurge while you're on vacation this is the place. It's in the heart of the old city. Beautiful, cozy restaurant. The menu is limited, but it's limited because they specialize in preparing outstanding food! The service is beyond awesome. Ask for Josef -- tremendous waiter. This was the jewel in a... More

We went to this restaurant last night, and were so impressed that we are going back tonight. My aperitif was mad with prosceco and rhubarb-delicious! The corn soup was wonderful. My husband had the liver and mashed potatoes which he said was the best he'd ever had (including mine!) and the fried chicken was very tender, accompanied by a greens... More

Dinner was serviced outside on the terrace. We felt welcome in this restaurant. we enjoyed both good wine and dinner. The only thing disturbing was the fact that on getting dark we hardly could see what we had for dinner. We advice the restaurant to bring more light to the table during the evening hours

We were very pleased with this lovely hotel. Located in the heart of old town, it's creatively appointed with interesting artwork and a clever room decor. Spacious and comfortable, our room was also quiet --- in spite of its location in a busy area. The breakfast is excellent too. You can't go wrong with this hotel.

During our recent trip to Salzburg, my girlfriend and I had dinner at this restaurant based on a recommendation in the Fodor's Vienna & Austria travel guide. The food was pretty good, but overpriced and the portions were small. Fodor's guide said the average main course is about 15 euros. In reality it s about 30 euros. We ordered two... More

Description
History proves that you'll be well looked after: people have been gathering here for centuries, ever since 1350. The old walls with their vaulted ceilings and cosy nooks have seen plenty in their day; nothing can shake them these days. Smokers are welcome: there is a smoking lounge in the Schanigarten (pavement cafe), while everywhere else is non-smoking.

The new Salzburg cuisine
Take the courtly, bourgeois cuisine of Vienna, mix in some alpine produce and the easy ways of the south, all seasoned with a pinch of innovation and there you have it - attractive and modern Salzburg cuisine.

Authentic. Simple. Regional.
"Classic Austrian dishes", meticulously prepared offal, forgotten recipes, underrated cuts of meat, interesting vegetable dishes and the great imperial tradition of desserts as preserved by our confectioner Karl-Heinz - that's how we cook.

Our Wine Archive (Weinarchiv) used to be a jazz cellar with vaults that are centuries old. It now stores our precious stock of wines. We open it up for festivities from 8 to 50 people, and call it "La Tavolata" which means something like: "Let's all have a great evening together at this long table." You can be sure that whatever we serve up has been home-made at our food manufactory and presented on an array of dainty plates and bowls. Everybody gets stuck in, helping themselves and their neighbours. Sharing is caring!
