We went on a very rainy night to have dinner. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I wasn't sure which beer I would like so I was offered to try the ones they had, which proved very good as I received a nice beer. As everywhere with Iceland, the food isn't cheap, however we were pleased with what we... More

We had just arrived in Hofn and we were looking for good food, cosy setting and correct prices (by Icelandic standards). We found it. We had lobster soup: tasty, (too?) racy and quite rich. Vanessa had surf and turf: worth it, though the crumbed lobster was a bit plain. Lamb was excellent. I had the lobster pasta - pity it... More

We were there for a quick dinner. The "Surf n Turf" there was excellent, the mini lobsters were very tasty.

Along the southern coast of Iceland, not far from the National Glacier Park area, is a small town of Hofn with some great restaurants. Kaffi Hornid is warm and inviting with a warm wood interior. Their soup warmed the soul and was delicious, along with their warm bread that we couldn't get enough of. However, the thing to eat there... More

We enjoyed our meal of salted cod and surf n Turf. Delicious food!! Great atmosphere! For dessert, we had hot chocolate (which came with toasted marshmallows and a candy cane) and apple pie/cake. YUMMY!!

We had a great dinner with good wine. It can get pricey but since we were in the middle of nowhere, it felt really good to have a place with comfort food and friendly staff. Completely worth going.

this place is famous for its lobsters, and I am talking about the town of Hofn all together we picked this, and were very happy! looks like a hut and a shopping center car park, but the lobster soup was very tasty and creamy, and the bread fresh! we had fish as well.. but we didn't really needed it!

We came in here around 11 PM after a full day of driving and site seeing from Reykjavik and were looking for something warm and comforting. This cafe serving local and pub-inspired food hit the mark perfectly. I got the burger, which was one of the best burgers I've ever had, and not just because I was hungry. My wife's... More

Our group of 14 stopped here for lunch. Small but cozy with very friendly staff. I had a steak sandwich that was out of this world. There was a soup bar also.

We had a delicious meal after a long day of driving and snowmobiling. We were anxious to try the local Vatnajokull beer (made of glacier water and flavored with local thyme), but sadly they were out. We tried two other Icelandic brews instead and they were delicious. We enjoyed the cod and the steak sandwich and then wolfed down dessert.

Description
Kaffihornid - About us

Kaffi Hornid brings the best local ingredients to the table right on Hofn's main road sits Kaffi Hornid, where you can find seafood brought straight from sea to the table and a tempting selection of dishes from filling plates of lamb to salads topped with chicken or lobster. Soup is served daily with homemade bread and a salad bar is open for guests who want a small but filling lunch.

The menu is large, with sea food and local specialities like lamb and beef featuring prominently, although vegetarians are not left out as a dish of pan-fried chickpea cutlets remains one of the more popular dishes. This restaurant and cafe, with airy cathedral ceilings and ample seating for guests has been successful since opening in 1999, alternating as a restaurant, cafe and bar.

Kaffi Hornid's owners, husband and wife Ingolfur Einarsson and Kristin Oladottir, have made good use of Hofn's prized local food: the langoustine. Found just off Hofn' s coast and widely celebrated as a town delicacy, the lobster-like creature known as langoustine features prominently in Kaffi Hornid's menu with an entire section devoted to dishes showcasing the succulent shellfish in every price range.

The langoustine is distinguished from lobster because it is much smaller and its meat is said to be sweeter. While plentiful in Europe anwaters, langoustines, better known as scampi, are scarcely found in North America and whenever served at restaurants they have been shipped frozen because their delicate meat does not survive the journey. Fortunately for Hofn and Kaffi Hornid the langoustines are freshly caught each day for visitors to taste.

Fresh fish, also caught daily, lamb and beef from nearby farms and chicken dishes round out the menu. Pizzas are made to order with a special langoustine pizza for guests who want to try a twist on toppings. Icecream made at Arbaer, a dairy farm a few kilometres from Kaffi Hornid, tantalises visitors with homemade flavours like chocolate licoric.
