6 of us ate here, and we liked this restaurant a lot. We were admitted to what felt like underground catacombs, which made us feel very special. The service was attentive, and the food was very good. Nearly everyone at the table felt that their...More

I went here with my mum during our journey in Stockholm. The place is really beautiful and it has something special in the armosphere. We ate a great salmon, I'm still dreaming it ! Then also the other courses were really good and the dessert...More

Charming in every respect; the location has bags of ambience, the food is great and the service was charming. Everything was well presented. This was a very relaxing evening with great tasting Swedish food. We had herrings, salmon, lamb and an Ox steak that was...More

My rating is four stars because of the quality of the food. We started off on a slightly iffy note because after having dressed up for dinner, we were seated in the deepest recesses of the basement. Every nearby diner was either American or English-speaking....More

A strong gust of wind blew me -- literally -- to the front door of this restaurant in the Old Town. As soon as I looked at the building, I knew that I had arrived at the right place for lunch. The structure reminded me...More

This restaurant is intimate, in fact very intimate... My group of four were sat at a table with another group of four other diners. To be fair, it wasn't the restaurant's fault that our neighbors were rude, but our proximity to them was. The service...More

Dined with a rather large group (10) but everyone remarked how intimate the restaurant felt. Loved the historic sense of place and was not disappointed by the menu options or the wine selections either! I will return with my family when I am in Stockholm...More

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)

At Den Gyldene Freden we have served authentic Nordic home cooking since the opening in 1722. Famous cultural personalities, tourists and local regulars visit our historic facilities in Gamla Stan to enjoy the fine food and the genuine atmosphere - for everyday or special occasions. We, the people who work at Den Gyldene Freden are very proud of our heritage and passionate about refining classic courses into modern cooking. Our philosophy is based on the idea that one must make time to cook - and eat - fine food. We make room for international influences, but our base is the Nordic kitchen interpreted in our own personal manner, with great respect for flora and fauna.
