We returned to Umami on our next visit to Copenhagen and it did not disappoint, not that we imagined it would. On our last visit we had the omakase presentation, which was fabulous. This time we ordered various a la carte items starting with edamame...More

Umami is a beautiful, elegant restaurant with excellent food. We ordered the Omikase menu. The fusion cuisine was exciting and delicious. The staff was gracious. We recommend to one and all.

There is no doubt the first thing you notice arriving to Umami is the details of the luxurious interior design. Then while waiting to be seated for dinner, you notice the drinks menu is just as detailed and its not all just show, the drinks...More

The place is quite dark but in the latest style. Danish design...:-) we love it. Sushi from extraordinary quality. Because we were invited I can not give a word about prices. They seem to be high. People are currently very young and wealthy... If you...More

Went here with the intention of eating good sushi but ended up chosing the set menu for simplicity. It was the best decision ever. Every dish was simply exquisit and we could not stop oooohing and aaaahing as every bite offered a new taste explosion....More

We went there is a group of 12. Frankly the food was very very ordinary. The sushi was at best average. The bill was a bomb. We have had way more expensive meals than this and come out with a huge smile. This was way...More

Our evening began with the age-old ploy of having guests "wait" for their table at the bar. Once they realized that we weren't going to buy drinks, we were promptly seated in the half-full dining area. Lack of servers made for a very long, drawn...More

There’s no doubt that Umami is a very stylish restaurant saturated in chic. On entering the place, one arrives in a low lit, multi-candled atmosphere framed by dark walls and spangled beading. It’s not unlike waking up in a Christmas grotto, except for all the...More

This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its

city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which
consists of three buildings, two of which are new and

Description
A Japanese Restaurant with a French accent, Umami is of one of the most visually striking restaurants Copenhagen has ever seen. inspiration comes from Jesper Boelskifte, who dreamed of opening an Asian restaurant in Copenhagen, which stimulates all five senses simultaneously. But there's a sixth sense, which Umami explores. In terms of the cuisine, the intention was to be on par with Robert de Niro’s Nobu restaurant in New York. And the design would be in the same class as Morimoto in Philadelphia. Jesper’s dream became a reality with UMAMI, located on a prestigious street in the heart of Denmark’s capital.Visually, perhaps the most compelling element is a sculptural curtain with color-changing lights. A mood- generating concept which matched the vision of Jesper, who wanted to woo guests into a relaxed state of tranquility. The sculptural curtain and décor concept was developed by Orbit Design Company in London, whose client roster includes high profile brands such as Louis Vuitton, among others. Orbit was responsible for the interior design as well as the furniture, which was custom-made for UMAMI.The previous tenant was a bank, the remnants of which remain in the iconic metal door to a vault downstairs, which still has a security device. In the basement at UBAR, customers can choose from an extensive array of upscale cocktails. From lemon grass infused saké to a variety of martinis to Kirin beer. While seated at the elongated bar, a DJ serves equally delicious lounge and jazz music.Customers can go directly upstairs to any of the seats at the sushi bar with a front row centre view of the sushi chef in the open kitchen. Continuing upstairs to the first floor, there’s an extensive space able to accommodate 120 guests, immersed in a total, all encompassing experience. Enjoying the utmost in professionalism.
