This is a gem of a restaurant. It is family run, with smart, intimate surroundings and run with effortless courtesy and efficiency. It is located close to the Palace, but is otherwise the preserve of locals and the occasional tourist lucky enough to spot it. Amalie offers a wide variety of Danish and Scandinavian dishes to suit most tastes with... More

Staff is very friendly with English menu as well. Pork tenderloin is very much recommended with mushrooms! :) Definitely a must-visit if you are nearby.

This is a small space only open for a long lunch but it serves good beer and great local seafood. I had pickled herring and local cheese with the draft beer and it was amazing with great and friendly service. It's worth looking for and enjoying some great tastes.

This is a tiny, simple, unpretentious restaurant that serves traditional Danish fare. We chose it because although very much near a tourist hot-spot (Nyhavn) it did not appear to be a tourist trap. The food was delicious and service very friendly. Would have repeated again if we had time. Like most places in Copenhagen, not cheap.

This restaurant is open for lunch only until 1600 hrs - but go there for real Danish cuisine matched with over a 100 different variety if schnapps. We had herrings, superb - plaice, superb - schnapps, superb. A real Danish experience with great helpful attentive staff.

We had a short stay in Copenhagen and wanted to revisit this lovely restaurant, where we have been many times before. There reason we keep going here is quite simply, that they offer the best smørrebrød (sandwiches) in Copenhagen. We had made our reservation well in advance, which you have to do as this place is quite popular. We sat... More

Amalie is a delightful little restaurant housed in an 18th century building near the Amalienborg Palace. Open for lunch only, Amalie has a small dining room tastefully decorated with black and white photos of Old Copenhagen and an outdoor seating area shaded with umbrellas. The menu consists of traditional Danish dishes (served in lunch portions) and is first class. The... More

The location is very nice not far from Amalienborg palace. The food tasted very good. We ordered curry herring fish and beef steak. Strongly recommended!

The restaurant is in a nice location away from the tourist mobs. The staff was friendly, restaurant clean and if you like the local fare then this place is for you. Unfortunately I found out today I'm not a fan of herring.

Neighbourhood Profile
Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.
