We stumbled across this basement restaurant when exploring one lunchtime. Very busy but we were made to feel welcome and the staff took time to talk us through the delicious menu. Lovely food and a bustling atmosphere, definitely recommended but as ever in Copenhagen, not cheap!! 😄

You do not need to visit more famous and expensive Schoeneman to have a beer and sandwiches. Great service and inexpensive. Safe choice for a Danish lunch. Will be back.

My friend and I visited to experience the open sandwiches that we had heard so much about .. and wow, it did. It disappoint. First off, don't think sandwich .. think amazing tasty dishes, incredibly tasty with layers of flavour .... served on a slice of the bread ... delicious! Grab a selection and dive in .. it won't disappoint!... More

We just bumped upon this tiny cosy smørrebrød house located in a basement while walking downtown. Although it's so close to a central area, with my surprise, it's not what you'd call a "tourist trap". Being a vegetarian I enjoyed seeing a few suitable options on the menu. The restaurant is very clean and the lady who welcomed us was... More

If you ever want to taste "smørrebrød" as it should be, you must visit Pilekælderen. Everything is made from the best products and even the bread is homebaked. The best smørrebrød I have had in years. They also have a great selection of both organic and local beer and you can combine this with different kind of Snaps. The decor... More

The classic danish lunch was pretty and delicious. The service was friendly and super helpful, when one of us had to skip the schnapps and needed Tequila, the waitress pulled out a bottle from some secret stash. Very accommodating and a bit playful. I would recommend this centrally located restaurant to anyone..... even a Foodie.

We where a group of people eating here a friday afternoon. The food you can taste is very well prepared and homemade. They bake there own bread and cook everything fresh. There are many traditional smørrebrød/lunch places in Copenhagen and this place for sure meets the top. Note that they are only open for lunch. Must visit.

Came without reservation for lunch and were seated immediately. We shared the karry sild, lun leverpostej and roast beef smørrebrød and that was too much for the 2 of us as the portions were large. I guess if you are really hungry you should go for 2 sandwiches each as they recommend. All 3 were very good and the service... More
