Amazing food, amazing view and amazing hosts. Totally worth it! The menu of this restaurant is rich in variety and brings together Greek, Bulgarian and Turkish cuisine all together. Value for customers, breath taking mountain view, great food and best price for the quality. Try the spicy kebab and the dry red wine👌

Great food, delicious meats (sojucaki, yogurtlu kebap, beef cardozoulli) cool salad with tomatoes from the garden, flavors that reminded us of old times... We were won by the kindness, the smile and the impeccable behavior of the owners. A pleasant surprise the appetizing, pomakiki pie made by the hands of Musgié. At the end we were waiting heartily inside the tavern Gemile, to show us his home - museum. Great place...The only negative is the difficult landscape... Nevertheless, the place has become known and many visit. If you're going for a weekend, definitely make a Reservation!

Everything was wonderful and the service and the food and also the environment!!!!! You stopped eating because you wanted to see what was around you!!!!!! The only mistake they make is that on Sundays they don't make you the traditional Greek coffee......... The best thing would be to have a person just for the coffees or even to help when someone asks to go and make!!!!!

We heard a lot about this restaurant. After a 1.5 hour drive from Xanthi, we reached the nice restaurant. Very good reconstruction of the house, like a museum. He didn't take our order for meat and brought us whatever he wanted without asking us if we ate the specific ones, he only let us order salads. Nothing special for a 3 hour drive. It was delicious, I can't say but he gave us whatever he wanted and there were leftovers. And here comes the bill, he charged us what he wanted with an average price per person as much as I would pay in a gourmet restaurant in Thessaloniki with a bottle of wine and not bulk. Of course, no reason for proof!!!! I wouldn't go back for anything. I have seen much better in the country in the mountains and not be mocked. With bulk wine 30 euros per person!!!!!

We went because for so many years we read so many positive reviews...and we were disappointed. We waited an hour to order because they served each table completely and then went to the next to order. There was no list and there were not many options.Neither were portions because there was a shortage of meats with the effect that we ended up in a variety of meats.Delicious meats but the keftedaki and the kebap had too much buckwheat to the point that they burned very strongly.I don't think it's anything different for people who live in the province and have access to taverns with equally good meats and at a closer distance. Finally, I think that when somebody makes such a big trip to go on a 5 km dirt road, prices should be lower.

Blonde we go often. Having visited many places, on our current trip our friendly couple told us to go for dinner at the tavern Kotani. We arrived after a 1.30 hour drive (the last 30 minutes very bad road dirt road). Wonderful nature, the surrounding area of the tavern very picturesque. But the food is very moderate. To begin with, they brought us pies that were anesthetic. We ordered Stiffado rabbit, they brought us a serving that was only bone and a piece of small cherry resulting in ordering another one. Grass boiled very hard, pork with green indifferent, smoked apple ugly, cheese-burned indifferent, feta baked good. And finally a variety of baked meat that was good. The conclusion is that you do not drive so long and on such a road to eat such a menu. I think I'd never go again. It's not worth that much effort. Aaa and I forgot to tell you that 7 people. We paid 160 euros

We have been here several times. Due to Covid it has been three years. We made it today, the two hour drive from Smolyan was well worth it. Kottani is the same. Staff are friendly and helpful. Views spectacular. Welcome really lovely. Tsatziki and a cheese starter excellent. Meat, well, what can you say, absolutely wonderful l tender lamb, seasoned perfectly, koftas and adanas really juicy. The food was again really worth the drive. Thank you.

Eating in this restaurant is an incredible experience. It's an excursion in the middle of the forest (you also have to pass a village road of 7 klms in the end) it's a unique kind of food quality and an environment that is kept intact from 1930. The inside of the restaurant is in fact a Museum in which one has the rare opportunity to observe the rooms, the belongings and assume the way of living of rural people on the mountainous Mediterranean regions. The owners, Jemil and Muzejen (people in mountainous Rodopi in Greece are muslims who speak a slavik idiom as a mother tongue) have preserved everything very well. The view is spectacular and one is able to see the small village of Kottani on the top of a hill across. The region is a unique example in Europe. The food is always great, most of the vegetables are homegrown and the meat comes from the local farmers. We've been there numerous times and will keep visiting.

The visit to this special traditional tavern could be classified as a day trip or a special experience. And all along the route, you will be enchanted by the incredible natural beauty with the river following you along, horses, cows and sheep grazing next to you and canyons emerging between spectacular mountains. Awe!!!! And while you haven't reached your destination, you already feel drunk as if you've already started drinking... And when you finally arrive, you don't know where to look first... There is an incredible maximalist decoration all around you that takes you back in time... it reminds you of your grandparents, your childhood, the stone years of Greece full of deprivation and so full of flavors, aromas and everything real around you. As for the flavors of this incredible traditional restaurant...you won't find them anywhere else. Because they are unique - flavored with the herbs of the region. Be sure to try the wild boar stew...you will miss it.

It was worth (!!!) a little inconvenience of about 7 kilometers of dirt road that starts from the village of Medusa and reaches this traditional tavern. The place is shocking and through the tavern you experience the tradition of the friends of Pomaks who guard Thermopylae like genuine Akrites. The kitchen also follows this tradition and the flavors take off. The smile of Cemil and his wife warms you. You will miss a lot if you don't go, if you find yourself in Pomakochoria.

It's an experience... And the route passing Pomakochoria... River... Mountains... Cows... Horses... Sheep... Goats... And the tavern is a folklore museum with delicious honest authentic food!!! It would be reckless for someone not to eat where they are moving, even for a few days in these places... And the trip and Ithaca reward you...

Irrespective of the quality, the cost and anything else negative that someone will find to say, everyone who visits the Xanthi area MUST go. The man has done an amazing job as a folklore museum and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, guarding Thermopylae. It needs to be strengthened! On to the food now. Average and a bit expensive for a village, but it should be taken into account that it is far from supplies, which justifies the price cut. I would suggest that someone go for a simple S/K and not a 3-day one like we did on March 25th when the world was destroyed, literally a folk festival!

Having heard raves about this shop, I had some reservations as many who become famous ride the rod. They all broke up. Everything was wonderful: food, prices, service and the place - a museum of Pomaki tradition. It would be good to try as many different dishes as you can. It's a pity that this shop is 720 km away from my place of residence and I will be late to go again. One of the experiences that someone must have in their life.

I would definitely agree with the reviews that state - "worth the drive." The drive is really a part of the entire experience. The road to the Taverna will take you through a very winding twisting trail up into the mountains. We left on a Sunday afternoon from Xanthi and arrived at the restaurant 2 hours later. We had to stop for about 25 minutes along the way because one of the villages was having a religious festival and basically turned the main road into a one way road!! GPS works well to find the restaurant and the final 5 km is more of a dirt trail rather than a dirt road. We were in a 5 speed rental car that made it just fine although I was down shifting like a mad man. Some suggestions - First, have a local call first because the restaurant is not always available. Second, if you have small children who may get car sick - strongly consider leaving them at home. Do not expect this restaurant to be a burger king "have it your way" type of ordering. You basically sit down and the wait staff will make some suggestions to you as to what they will bring and then you will eat some of the best traditionally cooked meat of your life!! The view from the restaurant is absolutely amazing and we will have stories to tell for ages about our trip there (including the middle eastern squat style commode in the restroom). Not to mention when you tell the Xanti locals you drove to the Taverna - they will be crazy impressed - not a lot of tourists can handle the journey. 3 of us adults ate until we were stuffed for 60 Euro total (would have cost us over 3X that amount in Texas) and we had an easier drive back into town - although we slept off our meat coma's that evening.

I did a reservation for four people. On half way we called to inform that we will arrive in 10 minutes and they informed us that there is nothing to serve anymore. Absolutely unprofessional!!!
