Stopped here in July when visiting the Roman Agora, Tower of the Winds, and the Thisseion. This cafe is just across the street. Sit outside to enjoy the views of ancient architecture and history...the service is quick and the frappes arrive with lots of ice and great coffee flavors. Try one of their pastries...a great accompaniment. You will never be... More

The Thea Thissio is located amongst several bars and café’s along Apostolou Pavlou. Centrally positioned and surrounded by many of the icons of Athens including, The Acropolis, Mars Hill, The Archaeological sites of the hills of Muses (Philopappos) and many others. Thission Station is very close and Ermou and the famous Monastiraki are only a short walk away. The Ancient... More

Very good restaurant, friendly service, spectacular views. Marvel at thre sights of the Acropolis, the hills of Lecabettus and Philopappos with its' namesake monument and the ancient Agora and Temple of Thession (Hephaistion). If the weather is good ask for rooftop seating. Recommend making reservations as it gets very crowded especially on the weekends.

After a hot, long day spent walking from Monastiraki station around to the top of the Acropolis, down the other side and admiring the large trees along the pedestrian street of Apostolou Pavlou, we chose a cafe to rest. It was reasonably busy, the waiter was friendly and our order arrived quickly along with an extra small bowl of nachos.... More

The view of the Acropolis and Agora was excellent and the food quite good. It is quite a busy place with a lot of young people coming to chat and have coffee it was slightly noisy. Despite the buzz it didn't come down on the service. A very nice selection of greek wines and we were reccommended wisely. Worth it!

the location and view is great for coffee, food and even quick drinks... but lets redefine quick.. the waitress in charge of orders (for the outdoor tables) is amazingly slow and does not pay attention much to customers... in short service could be better...

This place has a wonderful view of acropolis, nevertheless it lacks proper service quality. We tried the waffles with ice cream but unfortunately it was a complete disapointment. It is a pity as the scenery in this place is very promising.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
