A little gem overlooking the Parthenon, seemed to be run by a cool couple who were attentive but not pushy. Went with my 14 year old son at 9pm. Food was fresh and local, we ordered too much but with jug of local wine and a smoothie, starters and mains only came to €35, seemed a good price to me.... More

After a long walkabout on the Parthenon, you look only for something to eat and drink. The choice is difficult because the area is full of touristic restaurants. But among all these tricky places, a light shines. This restaurant will surprise with a very good cooking and an efficient and kind service. And besides, the dishes are rich and prodigal.... More

This restaurant has a great view and very tasty food. One of the best tzatziki in town. Lots of cats will quietly surround you while eating.

Cosy and very nice place, excellent food and service; altgough in touristic place, it has a very warm, local and homely touch; happy to recommend further.

Antica is a bit of a touristy restaurant, but the food served here is really good. The menu is varied, and the food is fresh and well cooked. A good people watching place. No complaints at all.

If one expects typica "tourist's food" on this great tourist location, one is very happily surprised, the service is friendly and excellent, the food is basic Greek in choice but of very high quality; all is fresh, of good taste, rich portion, well served...in short a festive experience for a very reasonable price.

The location is excellent. The waiters are not very helpful with the menue. We were on own. It takes time for the food to be served but it is acceptable as it is cooked for you and not just heated. Avoid the meatballs. Get the salads and the appetizers are amazing!

We found the place accidentally while strolling around the city. My husband decided we are staying there for coffee. And since that time we were there everyday. Delicious frappe, mojito and food. They also treated us with free wine and coffee on the last day of our stay in Athens. Wonderful, smiling and lovely staff.

Excellent food, fair prices. The employees were also amazing. A good deal of vegetarian and vegan choices! If you are in the area you should visit!!

Well, first, the place has a great location on Adrianou Street with a view on ancient agora; from the first look it's the same as many other along this street. However, we had a great experience there, just everything you need after a long walk on Acropolis: a very good (Greek) food, a quick and friendly staff, and a great... More

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
