Great value, friendly popular family resto - I went there three times! Typical Greek dishes like moussaka, stuffed peppers...

This was only 100 yards from our hotel and highly recommended by a tour director. There are a small number of tables for outdoor seating, but close to a busy street so we chose indoor seating. The restaurant is clean, has a very simple decor and a small wait staff. At 6:30 we were early by Greek standards and there... More

Found this place through Rick Steve's guide. Located next to the Acropolis museum this is an amazing family run restaurant with a simple menu. We were greeted by Jennifer who explained the dishes to us. We tried some great homestyle soup, Moussaka and grape leaves. The food and service were incredible. Will visit again!

Went here for lunch and had Moussaka and grilled chicken (and Greek salad). No menu that we could see - Waitress reads out what is available on a given day which definitely indicates everything is freshly made! Really enjoyed it :)

Please eat here you won't regret it. Service one of a kind-Family run. Not a tourist trap. Very close to the acropolis museum. The owner treats you like royalty. Even takes you to the counter to show you all the specials. Everything is delicious and filling. We ordered the salad. The tomatoes were bursting with flavor the simple olive oil... More

Me and my friend had a wonderful experience by coming to this place which was recommended by a walking tour guide. The food was OUTSTANDING and the prices much cheaper than the rest of places in Athens. A pity I could go there for just one night.

We did a fabulous free walking tour this morning and the local tour guide lead us to this wonderful little restaurant. So not touristy and so great, reminded me of the local little restaurants back home. Fabulous food, tasty and not expensive at all. Definitely worth a visit when visiting the Acropolis

Best meal we had in 6 days in Athens. Small family owned restaurant below the Acropolis Museum. Eggplant was delicious and the roast lamb was delightful. The English speaking daughter-in-law from Iowa customized our offerings to our liking. On top of everything, prices were very reasonable. Go there!

Very good! We ate tzatziki, mussaka and eggplant and it was very tasty! The staff is very friendly and a familiar ambient. We will go again for sure!

Walked by this casual restaurant in the afternoon and it looked so cute, we just had to return in the evening for dinner. I am so glad we did. The food was wonderful and sitting at a small outside table was the perfect atmosphere. We arrived later in the evening for dinner, so some of their offerings for that night... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
