Had an omelette and coffee for breakfast, both were excellent! The place was near empty on a Saturday morning at 10:00 (as were most of the places I walked past) so the service was good. Omelette was huge and delicious! Two coffees and a giant omelette cast €13.

One of the best places in Athens to have a Greek salad, but everything on the menu is excellent. The staff is very friendly and they are one of the few places to open very early in the morning. My first choice for breakfast, even after I moved to Monastiraki.

This place was awesome. The food and coffee was delicious and they have cute little rocks you can write a message on and display in the cafe. Awesome range of vege and non vege food. We loved the soy gyros and the spanokopita. Also, great value!

I was fortunate enough to meet up with and become friends with a local Greek woman. She took me to "Smile" at 24 Syngrou Avenue which is run by mother and daughter. There is another "Smile" somewhere in the Plaka area which is run by father and son (husband and brother of the two at 24 Syngrou Avenue). Truly a... More

Visited this restaurant twice in our stay to Athens for the delicious gyros! Good portion sizes and very yummy. Loses a point as the owners sit around smoking in the conservatory bit which is a bit offputting for Brits who aren't used to smoking indoors.

We arrived in Athens this evening, and after checking into the hotel, we headed out for dinner. Smile Cafe happened to be up the road from us and we thought we would give it a shot. My 4 year old had a plate of napolita penne pasta and a portion of fries. He loved his meal. My husband and I... More

Great restaurant, friendly Personal, takes time talking to you. Good menu Card, love their Calimary. Prices not too expensive, price quality food good. Sitting in the front smoking allowed. Inside no smoking permitted.

A good place to eat traditional greek food at a low cost and great service. It's near Athens attractions and close to public transportation .

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
