A stroll down the streets of Plaka you come across this gem of a restaurant. The greeter was greeting you and helping you. Not telling you to eat there but actually helpful and welcoming. You sit down under the beautiful lit up acropolis. The food was a delight. My wife is still saying how delicious the moussaka was. I am... More

Good spot under the Acropolis and next to the ancient Agora. You can relax drinking coffee, beer or having a late lunch while the sun moves to west. A bit expensive and average plates but good service and .... great "karidopitta".

We had an enjoyable dinner on the terrasse on Diodos which boasts of a very nice view overlooking the Acropolis. We ordered several dishes and our favourite was the grilled squid. Our waiter offered us a house wine mixed with Amaretto and cinammon , a genuine delight! A must try near Monastiraki.

Foods are so lovely and amazing. Friendly and good looking staff. We have free drinks and dessert in the end of our meal. Lovely and cozy restaurant. Will definitely back again. I had a lovely tour in Athens though.

We stopped here for lunch and it was amazing! We split a small seafood platter and everything was delicious. We also had a 500 ml carafe of the house red wine, which was only €5.50. Not bad for Athens. We got a complementary warmed wine with honey and traditional Christmas cookies. We had a very insightful conversation with one of... More

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
