In the popular Plaka area of Athens, you can easily give in to the beckons of servers who stand outside a number of restaurants in central squares trying to tempt diners. Or you could go just a little off the beaten path and seek out a place like Glykis. Nobody is trying to summon you in to eat at one... More

Nice apple pie & baklavas to start our day around Plaka. The platter is acceptable for asian taste bud. The guy serving us is very friendly and polite, very helpful to us in deciding the drinks and food.

Just off the square and its pushy restaurant owners, this place provided a simple meal that was very tasty for good value - I really enjoyed my Greek salad, it tasted different from the dozens that I have had elsewhere. Definitely worth a visit.

Very good taverna. Delicious Greek salad and other mezzes. Good prices. Service quite slow but this is perfectly normal in all Greece.

This restaurant is good to relax in the nice, big and quiet terrace in the center of the crowded Plaka. We eated simple food such as Grek salad or tzatziki and is twas good. I recommend this place for a quiet and simple lunch

We stopped for a beer after a long day walking around Athens. The beer was cold, and tables were in the shade and it was in a lovely quiet corner of Plaka, slightly off the beaten tourist track. We perused the menu, and decided to go for some Mezze. We had stuffed vine leaves, roast chicken, tomato meat balls and... More

2 streets only from busy Plaka food area you will first notice the place. Shaded and fresh in the corner of a pedestrian area. Some tourists and Greeks seem to join for a casual moment. Good tapas-like Greek food taking you beyond mainstream slouvlakis and pitas gyros. Nice caring smiling non intrusive waiters and fair price. Definitely a very good... More

This place is in the middle of Plaka, rather it is very calm: nice garden, with blue tables, local peoples sitting around them. We have chosen the pastrami pie for breakfast and it was superb! And the owner has really friendly cats.:)

This lovely little restaurant off the beaten track serves the best greek salad we have ever had. We tried several others in Athens, but we kept coming back to this little oasis.

There were five of us. We ordered together. Everyone else got their food. I didn't. So I asked if they had forgotten me. My dish eventually turned up just as everyone else was finishing, so I sent it back and said I didn't want to pay for it. I'm not good at reading Greek till receipts, but there were the... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
