We hadn't booked, so we arrived just after 6 as we had been warned it would be busy. There were only a couple of tables left by the front door. Turned out to be a great place to sit. Service impeccable and - as always in Funchal - friendly and welcoming. Prawns in garlic were enormous and delicious. Steak on... More

Lovely restaurant with smart interior and very professional staff. Best to reserve a table during busy times, we booked a table a few days in advance and so did twelve others, it has around twenty tables. Wheelchair access can be arranged as the front doors are a bit tight. The fresh fish is on display as are the cooks within... More

We should have enjoyed our meal here a bit more but we were a bit disappointed. For example, their execution of the speciality scabbardfish (espada) with banana was competent rather than inspiring. The other dishes we saw served were a little homely rather inspired. This would obviously be a great relief to someone otherwise cooped up on a cruise liner... More

We have dined here a few times, in fact whenever we are lucky enough to visit Funchal. I love the Grilled Squid, but then, everything is delicious.

If you want o escape the standard Euro-fare or cruise-ship offerings with pictures of food, then this is the place to visit. A busy family-run restaurant with a good menu and even better quality of food and wine. Great atmosphere and it is not expensive. However you will have to book to be sure of a table. We had the... We ate here twice during our recent visit to Funchal - once for lunch, once for dinner. The restaurant is small without being cramped. We ate excellent tuna on both occasions. The portions were generous and the cost of wine reasonable. The waitress was helpful and spoke good English. At lunchtime there were a lot of locals too.

A lovely traditional restaurant serving a variety of fish and meat dishes. It is popular with the locals and tourists. It is situated behind the gardens off the main road near the tourist info and the Ritz. The staff were very welcoming, the food excellent and the choice of wines good.

Soups were excellent, (cream of veg and the fish soup) and very filling. The house style squid was served with rice and some salad. Espetadas was especially good and tasty and cooked as requested medium rare. Were too full to try any of the tasty looking puddings, so will have to return. Wine seemed reasonably priced. Tables are close together... More

Had lunch at this restaurant without booking, arrived around 12:30 and got the last table that was available. Most customers were locals, there was a long queue after 1 p.m. Very nice food and reasonable price, friendly staff. Because it was so busy that I found it a little bit difficult to relax and enjoy the lovely food. Our first... More
