Nice little cafe in the centre of Sintra with quirky interior. Menu was simple, I had a really nice salad and a hot chocolate which was really nice. Great spot for a quick lunch before continuing your journey (it’s quite expensive if you choose to...More

We stopped for coffee and treats. Super cute cafe. Coffee great, and tea blends were superb. The cake and pastries which were homemade puts all other bakeries to shame and we have been to many in the 9 day visit here in Sinatra. Portions were...More

Even though the town is overrun with tourists (including us), the servers here were friendly and the place wasn’t run as a tourist trap. Food was good and had a lot of healthy/fresh options. Prices very fair.

Loved this place for their scones! They are freshly made and unlike any scone I've had in the past. The Cafe Americano is very large and they will heat the milk up and serve it on the side for you to pour in. The cafe...More

The service was kind and funny/happy people, the prices were a lot low even though the food was gigantic, the toast you see in the pictures is more than enough to fill anyone, and for only 1,7€, I've seen Pasteis de Nata going for more....More

Description
Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts and other cultural activities.
