My sister and I had lunch here before visiting Quinta da Regaleira (which we highly recommend). Lunch was delicious and the Cuban waiter was very friendly and helpful!

I found this lunch spot on TripAdvisor, so we stopped for lunch after visiting Pena Palace and Castle of the Moors. It is right next to the train station which was very convenient as we were heading bakc to Lisbon. It is divided into cozy little rooms. They offer soups, salads, and sandwiches. I had the Omega 3 sandwich and... More

Great decor on the inside. It's like you're dining in different living rooms when you sit down to eat. The wait staff speaks English so don't be afraid to try and speak Portuguese then fall back on English. Tea: Black- Orange Pekoe was simple and refreshing. Didn't even need to put sugar in it. Queijada: Typical Sintra Cheesecake - This... More

Delicious Ham Cheese Panini, must try the traditional local bread. A wide selection of cakes and pastries. Good and warm service from staff.

We stopped here for a coffee during our visit to Sintra. The food was good and we were served by a lovely Cuban waiter. He gave us good tips about places to see too!

Shout out to our Cuban waiter who made us feel so welcomed at the cafe last week! He went out of his way to take care of us and set up a clean table for us when we came back for afternoon coffee (that's after having lunch their earlier that same day!) when the restaurant was quite crowded. The panini... More

We were waiting for a train back to Lisbon and needed something refreshing. Home made ice tea was a good choice. Place was really nice looking, could have more tables outside. Service was partly really warm, partly gave a strange impression.

We were sat with a window view which was lovely! It was a late lunch and the place was still quite busy. Our panini's were great! I took the opportunity to walk around and I'm glad I did. Lots to see. Highly recommend!

Description
Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts and other cultural activities.
