We stayed at Chalet Saudade down the street and owned by the same people. The breakfast was great but the staff was even better. It is amazing what a friendly staff can do for your experience. Yunieski was so friendly every morning and took great care of us. He is from Cuba so you can imagine he loves to talk... More

Beautiful, cosy little cafe close to the train station. Wonderful breakfast and coffee. Absolutely loved it. Toilets available. Good service. Credit cards accepted. Highly recommended.

Amazing hot chocolates (according to my daughter!) and warm Portuguese bread (note large amount!) with toasted raisin bread (yum!) and Portuguese tarts. Friendly staff - the Cuban waiter was particularly friendly, in a cheeky way. Only disappointment was that we discovered the place on our last day so we couldn't return.....!

This was lovely lunch time stop. Salads were fresh and a good size! It was also very inexpensive with friendly staff. Would definitely recommend for lunch in Sintra.

Most people arrive in Sintra by train from Lisboa. You are greeted by a horde of welcoming tour guides, who kidnap you and whisk you off to the sights, or you catch the No 434 Tour Bus to save yourself the considerable hike to the Castelo dos Mouros or the Palacia National da Pena. Instead, start your day in Sintra... More

We recently took a day trip to Sintra during the Easter holidays. When looking for a quick bite to eat, we came across Saudade, a quirky and full of personality restaurant perfect for a quick and healthy bite at a very reasonable price. The restaurant is located in the old cheese factory and its decoration is rather eclectic which added... More

We only wanted to have a little snack before dinner: their toasts are so huge that we actually called it a dinner and finished with a 'slice' of cake that was enormous!! The waitresses are were nice, girls that looked like they backpacked a lot! Lovly place, good food!

The coffee and the breakfast was very good. We had the traditional breakfast with pastel da nata, bread and coffee. Very friendly waiter (the Cuban waiter was really friendly and gave us also some suggestions regarding what to do in Sintra, thanks again). Perfect place to have a good breakfast before starting the day!

Very good foods and drinks. We took our breakfast and also take away sandwishes. Thank you very much to the Cuban staff who served us very kindly and looked after us.

Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts and other cultural activities.
