Joined the throng of thousands of tourists queueing to get into this now very famous shop. As well as the legendary custard tarts we also bought some beef samosas which were almost nicer than the custard tarts! But not quite...

Really special place. I tried many pastis, but only Pastis de Belem tasted extremely good. Interior and azulejos are very interesting. When I was about 11 AM, I could see how to prepare these delicious pastis.

Best place to get the amazing nata tarts! They are very good! So creamy, you need more than one and remember to sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar on top!

We arrived on the tram to visit the monastery and saw the queue at the next door cafe. Intrigued, we went to look and saw (and smelt) the wonderful cakes being made. As it had begun to rain we decided to grab a coffee and after a five minute wait we were shown to our table. Despite the small window... More

My girlfriend and I walked from Bairro Alto along the river all the way to this cafe and it was worth it. Don't let the take away lineups discourage you. They move pretty well

Okay, you've heard that you must visit this place when you visit Lisbon. Well, you really do need to visit this landmark. The pastries are awesome. The staff are friendly and effecient and the little "nata" pastries are made on site and they are wonderful. Here's a tip: don't stand in the line on the sidewalk; just go in and... More

A trip to Lisbon is not complete without a visit to Pasteis de Belem. After trying several other pasteis de nata I can guarantee that they still have the best ones in town. The crust is to die for and the filling is not extremely sweet. Just right! You can just take the pasteis to go or sit in one... More

A definite stop. Good value for money. Big seating area, should have no problem getting seated. Would highly recommend.

These Belem cakes are the best in the world despite the immense cue. No worries the cues goes fast as they are a production line. Don't miss it as you should not miss the Sintra Pillows from Periquita 1 when in Sintra. Best ever.

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belem
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
