After being practically harassed by every restaurant on this strip, we finally decided to give this place a try as I couldn't take another person coming up to us. Staff was nice but food was extremely poor quality. Both ordered steaks, which was mostly just...two thin slabs of fat. Seemed understaffed and only thing I truly enjoyed was the bottled water. :(More
We had a busy day sightseeing and were very hungry. The man outside encouraged us to go in while we were looking at the menu. My friend had turkey and I had steak though neither meat was recognisable as such. Both meats were like shoe...leather, and the chips were cold. We ate a few mouthfuls and both gave up as the meat was not chewable. We then asked for the bill and left. We know we should have complained at the time but we just wanted to get out.More
We went to this place because it was sunday evening and all our favorite and delicious restaurant was closed. We couldnt imagine to be disapointed like that. Everything was bad. The food is from the freezer, not the sea. The fish was bad and my..." arroz de marisco " was Just Rice with water and awfull freeze shellfood and... surimi! The beer was so expensive for Lisbon like 2.40€ for 20cl... ( I know many restaurant in Lisbon where for this price you have 2 beers or a glass of wine. .) The place was dirty. They saw but they didnt clean it. After all, when we paid, they didnt come to give our money back. We had to ask and they get angry . My friend said " the food is Just discusting " and they laughed. ... Really dont go. Some advice for the restaurant : if you dont like food, change of job. So easy to eat well and cheap there and you are not able at all to cook and your price are Just a joke. Other reader of trip advisor can read my other comments and notice usually im always nice. Sorry for my english but I prefer prevent most as possible people to dont come.More
I normally avoid streets like this that are full of tourist trap restaurants because we like to choose our own without having to deal with vultures trying to get you into their restaurant. At first we went into one just across and it was empty...and a kind person sitting on another table saw us and told us "Don't eat here, it is terrible" which was my first impression but my wife was in "I need food or I kill mode" LOL. Then one moustauched vulture from another restaurant kept on bothering us and was EXTREMELY annoying. And so it was that we cut him off and chose the restaurant across his (so we landed at Nilo). The "lurer" of Nilo was well mannered and not abusive like the other. We sat outside and we overheard the "vulture" of the restaurant across (the one that was annoying us) "Panama, you will regret your decision". Yeah, certainly somebody with issues and totally unsuitable. Well, we certainly do not regret our decision because the food was good (not excellent but what we expected) and it was warm so despite the annoying person from the opposite restaurant we were quite satisfied. The staff of Nile was corteous and non self-impossing. The price was not cheap but not terribly expensive either, that is a price you have to pay when getting into these sort of restaurants (like I said, I would have avoided it if it wasn't for my less experienced wife). The beer was very cold and quite satisfying as well. What we did not find amusing was that the woman (co-owner I guess) was nice and made us believe that the entrees that she put on our table were part of the meal as they do in most restaurants but when we got the check they had charged us for that. That in particular we found non-professional, as a restaurant owner you should be clear in telling your customers whether something is optional or not. I don't recall the name of the restaurant represented by the annoying character (just opposite), to that one I would have given a one star rating.More
This place is just TERRIBLE. My worst experience ever. First of all, you have to wait very very long before the food got served. Then, when finally served, you will find out it's cold! Not warm, cold! I started to complain at the waiter, who...was smelly and sweating btw. They offered me to pick a new dish from the menu. I refused it of course and left the restaurant asap! Had to pay more then 3 EUR for one can of cola and a tiny bread! Ridiculous!More
I went the other day to the restaurant and expected a tourist trap. I was very tired and didn't want to search longer so decided to try. What attracted me is that they were not aggressively trying to get us in like the other ones...in the same street. Once we sat down everything went perfectly. They had a waiter who had his first day serving and he was incredible, really trying to do his best (maybe that was the difference compared to others?). Sangria was fine, for food we had grilled cod and cod with cream and both were very tasty. They didn't rip us off and portions were reasonable for what you are paying. After two days I decided to come back. The same waiter was not there but his colleague was not any less good and once again we had a good time. I really don't know how that is possible if I look at all the other reviews now, but the fact is that we were an exceptionMore
This evening we stumbled upon Restaurant Nilo and had a horrendous experience. The waiter and waitress were pleasant however everything else was a complete shambles. The food was tasteless, poorly presented, my Bacalao was so disgusting that I couldn't eat it with dried carrot shavings...that had clearly seen better days. The rest of the group ate greasy and fried fish accompanied with tomato flavoured watery rice. One friend received the wrong dish and was not compensated or offered his dish as a replacement. Finally, we complained at the end of the meal and the patron of the restaurant accepted no responsibility for the awful meal, blaming his staff and demanding that his employee pay the difference in the bill. We were charged for food we did not eat and he was reluctant to reimburse us. He was smoking a cigarette in the corner of the room, was rude and incompetent. He made his employee cry as she was told she would have to pay for the food and we are worried and unsure that she will have a job tomorow even though our experience was not due to her work. Finally, the wine glasses were dirty and I had oil spots in my wine. We were not reimbursed for the awful food despite our protestations and the manager did not even care to apologise for an appalling evening.More
This is the most terrible 'restaurant' of Lisboa. Please avoid this place at any time and stay healthy! Disgusting food, terrible service. Everything is totally wrong here. Be warned.
Really bad experience... We ended up there because it was late and we couldn't find anything better. Very touristy place, with nice but not so professional waiters. I had a COMPLETELY burned and tasteless octopus which was claimed to be like that because of the...grilling... No apologizes or discounts for that. Poor wine as well.More
We were hungry and it was 5 PM but this place it not to be recommended. Bad service (waiter was totally drunk!) Bad food (my wife ordered turkey and received pork) The place is not clean Please do not repeat our mistake!
We just stopped late evening for just a glass of wine. After serving an overpriced bottle of wine, waiter was leaning/seating on the edge of our table smoking, seriously?
never had worse beef steak in my life, poor and slow service, aggressive marketing. never coming back again
For us, a trip to Lisbon always includes a stop at one of the many restaurants located in Rua dos Correeiros in the center of town. We always eat outside but indoor seating is also readily available at most of the restaurants. We stopped at...Restaurant Nilo quite by accident. We thought we were dining at the restaurant across the narrow street as overflow seating was on both sides of the street, but after sitting down we realized we were seated at a different restaurant. We decided to give it a go anyway and we're glad we did. I ordered the pork with french fries and my wife opted for the grilled octopus with garlic potatoes. We chose the house red to accompany. A word about house wines in Europe. They are almost uniformly excellent and we never hesitate to order them. We waited nearly 30 minutes for our meal but with all the street action (buskers, mimes, and trinket vendors) the minutes flew by. We were finally served and the food was hot and plentiful. We dug in and my wife let out a moan of ecstasy usually reserved for a more intimate setting! Wondering what all the fuss was about, I asked for a taste of her dish. Now, my pork and fries were good but her octopus was sheer bliss. I kept trying to distract her so I could make a stab at another hunk but she was too smart to fall for that trick. She eventually took pity on me and gave me another bite. This was possibly the best seafood dish we have ever tried and I almost dumped my pork in favor of a new order but time was short and we had to get back to our cruise ship. I guess I'll have to wait till our next visit for my turn. Ain't it grand to have something to look forward to?More
This is the kind of place that tempts you in when you don't know the city and see a busy restaurant with customers sitting out in the attractive, cobbled side street in the sun and you need to stop and eat. The food is edible...and the waiters are friendly.More
