We went there late in the evening. Of course, no table any more available. So what to do? The waiter offered us two chairs that were left in front od the cash desk and said: take them! Outside on the street there is enough space. And she served our Ginjinha, beer and mojito on the street. Would be great if... More

Was looking for some kind of tapas in the old town of Lisbon and found this cute alternative bar/cafe. Saw guests eating the platter in front of the restaurant and immediately became hungry. For the mixed cheese, dry sausage, vegetables and bread platter plus 2 glasses of wine we spent around 19eur. Really enjoyed the atmosphere there: alternative furniture with... More

Quaint little cafe. We sat outside and the meat plate was lovely. It was romantic and a great place to watch the people pass. It is very small, but seemed like a place locals might go. We went here for a bit of food before venturing off in search of a good fado place. I would definitely go back.

Whilst out exploring Alfama, my girlfriend and I stumbled across young couples sat out in the street in the sunshine enjoying a glass of wine and a charcuterie sharing platter. It looked so good we couldn't resist... The rest is history, we too jumped on that bandwagon. It's was excellent food and drink made better by a very friendly proprietor.... More

If you happen to visit Al Fama, please look out for this little ginjinha bar. The owner is so friendly, and happy to teach about trying the local cherry liqueur. We returned multiple times in fact during our stay in Lisbon. Very tiny wth only several chairs/tables available outside and inside, come here to watch the world go by in... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
