A rooftop view sets the scene in the spectacular style here & having booked as a treat for my wife’s 40th birthday, she was certainly impressed.
The service was wonderful throughout with one waiter in particular bringing his sommelier experience to help us settle on a bottle of the Quinta do Arcossó Reserva 2017, which was divine, as well as the cocktail of the week.
The food was wonderful; I had an octopus special, which was delicious, my wife had the Tuna Steak au Poivre & our daughter had the Brás Style Cod, all of which were very well prepared. My only suggestion would be perhaps to allow smaller portions of the food for younger guests; there is no kid’s menu, which is fine, but we had to order a full main for our 18 month old, which she loved, but was slightly too much. Some flexibility on this would have set this apart, considering this place is featured on blogs on Lisbon with kids.
Overall, however, a wonderful experience & would recommend.

Having read the reviews on line, we arrived at 7pm and were escorted to a perfect table by open shutters with Lisbon spread out in front of us.
The meal itself was mostly good. The starters were small. Only two ox croquettes seemed a bit stingy and the prawn salad was a poor man's prawn cocktail. The mains were much more pleasing. The beef cheeks were cooked to perfection and the guinea fowl was very tasty. The chocolate fondant dessert finished the meal perfectly.
The ambience in the restaurant was lovely and service was mostly good. Given the views on offer, the prices were decent.
Definitely worth a visit.

Chapitô À Mesa offers a memorable dining experience with outstanding steaks, perfectly cooked and paired with exquisite wine. The service was attentive and genuinely caring, ensuring we felt welcomed throughout. The view over Lisbon from the restaurant is absolutely breathtaking, adding a magical touch to the meal. When reserving, be sure to request a table inside the main dining area—it’s cozier and more charming than the covered outdoor terrace. A fantastic spot for great food, hospitality, and stunning scenery!

We went on a Sunday evening after booking, as soon as we arrived we immediately noticed that the place was full and everyone was very busy, a bad omen but we decided to stay anyway. They made us wait 20 minutes before being seated and made 3 people who had arrived later pass in front of us because the free table was for 4 and not 2. Water was requested three times and arrived after the courses, two requests on the menu were not available, half an hour for dessert. I understand the packed house but a little more caution wouldn't be a bad thing. The location is very beautiful, nothing to say about that, the food is mediocre and above all the dishes are small compared to the asking price. I wouldn't recommend it if not for the terrace but it's not the only one with a terrace in Lisbon. Long awaited dessert offered

The place was (badly) recommended by a local Guide (excellent in everything else). The wait staff makes us wait 10 minutes before we sit down, without telling us anything (they probably don't like having people for lunch). The restaurant has a pleasant terrace with a view, too bad that we sit in a corner table with beautiful views of the changing rooms (see the photo).
We ask for a codfish and a burger. Hard to choose which is worse. For the cod it is a dish of oil with completely bland cod inside. The burger instead denotes poor meat quality (of course no one bothered to ask for cooking). All decidedly overpriced.
They may be good (maybe) as a circus school, but in the kitchen definitely not! To be avoided.

Chose this restaurant for the fun ambiance for my family. It was a beautiful spot under the tent.
The food on the other hand wasn’t great. My husband ordered the burger and asked for it well done. They served him a bloody rare burger. May be the miscommunication in the kitchen, but the server specifically asked and wrote down well done. My husband being who he is, didn’t want to complain and only ate the edges of the burger that were cooked. The waiter saw the half eaten red burger left on the plate and did nothing about it when we said we ordered it well done. No apologies.
The food I ordered was inedible. The roasted octopus (24euros) was so incredibly chewy, very difficult to cut let alone chew on. I waited for the server to come and check in on us, being seated at the corner of the restaurant and out of view. They only came around at the end of the meal. When I said it was inedible, she asked if she should let the kitchen know, I said yes please. Nothing happened. They still charged me, I didn’t fight. Another waiter that came with the bill asked how the meal was and I let him know as well, but he said, that happens sometimes. What?! That is not what should happen at a restaurant.
I was very very disappointed with this restaurant and how they handled it all. There are far better restaurants in Lisbon and I wouldn’t waste my money on this one.

It’s a beautiful, albeit circus/rustic, setting and the food is good but it’s chaotic at 7pm with a very long line when they open as everyone scrambles for a seat, mixing reserved with unreserved guests. We were seated and left a whole hour on a warm evening without being offered so much as a drink, not even water. Meanwhile, tables around us were served in the most bizarre way I’ve ever known in a restaurant. The table next to us received drinks, food, follow up ‘is everything okay’, before they moved to do the same with another table, 10 minutes later onto another table, 60 minutes later it was finally our turn. Various tables had completely finished eating before we were even greeted by a waitress or offered a drink. We tried to get attention to be served but were totally ignored. It wasn’t our turn yet. Aside from this totally bizarre experience the food and service (once they arrived to us) were actually quite good.

Overall experience of this restaurant was poor. To begin with, we asked for tap water and got an immediate 'we don't do tap water', only for them to bring out a reusable glass bottle filled with...tap water. Great way to make a quick e2.50!
Starters were fine, we had the scallops and beef tartar, with the former being the better of the two.
We then get our mains, the fish and the beef tenderloin, which we asked for it done medium rare. It took a while for the mains to comes (about 25 mins) and when they arrived the beef was pretty much well done. I assume it was sat under the heat lamp for some time. I called the waiter over and said I asked for it medium rare and the response was "that is medium rare" - Now I wouldn't say I'm a food connoisseur but I know what medium rare looks like, and this was not it! They took the beef back and said it would be 7 - 9 minutes , but it took about 20 minutes and so my partner (who's birthday it was) had to eat her main alone.
After the mains, we called the head waiter over to flag the issues, who kept repeating they were "very sorry" but in a very condescending way. At this point we just wanted to settle the bill. She offered dessert and ports and we politely said no thank you, we just want to go. What do they do? End up bringing out a dessert with candles, completely missing the point and embarrassing my partner.
We felt very uncomfortable throughout the meal and did not enjoy the birthday celebrations one bit. I feel the restaurant overall (menu, staff etc) thinks it's better than what it is but that couldn't be further from the truth. There are much better places in Lisbon to eat.

We order a sangria as an aperitif, 25 minutes later they arrive at the same time as the dishes... with cod, it's not great!!
This famous typical Portuguese dish is simply bad....
Flavorless, dry.. uncooked potatoes.. I left 3/4 of them... on the other hand the crazy price.. 22 euros!!
We were to have one of our aperitifs offered by our hotel (same owner),
Not even...I didn't insist...
Ah yes dessert!! slices of pineapple placed in a Deep plate..
The most beautiful effect.. well done Chapito!!

Hidden gem.
Firstly DO NOT be put off walking through the jewellery shop and into what looks like a merge of some slightly ramshackled rooms - it’s well worth it.
We booked into the restaurant and after ascending a challenging circular iron staircase (beware of wearing heels) the view you’re greeted with is simply beautiful. Perfect place to watch the sun set over lisbon.
We were slightly concerned that it may be all style no substance but we were SO wrong. The food is nothing short of astonishingly surprisingly delicious! The prawn salad starter was so fresh, my beef main melted in the mouth and my mums mash potatoes were the best we have ever eaten (and we should know coming from UK).
Service really friendly and welcoming (as is much in Portugal).
Great drinks & wine list with helpful suggestions from servers
All in all blown away by hidden gem couldn’t have asked for more
Thank you to the whole team

Access was via a small craft shop during the day.
We went to Chapito a Mesa at around 12.30pm without a reservation.
When we arrived on the terrace, an older lady spoke to us in English and pointed out that the terrace/cantina was used as a school playground and we were led into the restaurant with a magnificent view of Alfama and the Tejo, the suspension bridge and the Christ statue.
There were still a few tables for two free right by the window, we got one of them and enjoyed the view. Behind us was the bar with the kitchen arranged next to it, and we didn't hear anything from either at our table.
The service was very nice, spoke excellent English and was very accommodating. For example, we were told that the handmade fries were actually enough for two people, so we saved money and stomach overfilling.
The 0.5 liter draft beer on tap is first class, we really enjoyed the table water and it was also well chilled. Bread with olives and olive oil was our opener.
The seabass was perfect and fresh, and there were delicious grilled vegetables (beans, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, peppers).
The chicken peri peri was well seasoned (too spicy for children or delicate palates) and completely sufficient for one person. The handmade fries that came with it were great, and we also ordered a mixed salad that was classically dressed with vinegar and oil and went well with the fabulous meal. There was no room left in our stomachs for dessert, so we even skipped coffee.
We were able to pay with a VISA card and it was also possible to add a tip. At 60 EURO, we were very well served and fed!

A very bad experience. From waiting time, to gastronomy. I believe it is not generalized, but I was met very slowly, the request was misinterpreted, having missed a dish from the main meal, coming later with a delay compared to the others, and to my surprise, it was far below my expectations in gastronomic terms. In courtesy of everything that happened, they offered one of the main dishes by free initiative. I repeat, I believe it was a unique case, but I can't help but show my total dissatisfaction, being sure I won't come back.

Lovely food, LOVELY view, and the staff was so accommodating of our 1 year old!
The shishito peppers were our favorite, and the Peri Peri chicken a close second, but everything left us impressed (except maybe the cod cakes, just so so).
We also deeply appreciated the attempts to entertain our tired and fussy son, which included an actual tour of the restaurant while my wife and I enjoyed 10 minutes of dinner to ourselves. What service.

From the reservation process (automatic reply, instant confirmation, and sms confirmation on the day of eating), the experience here was top quailty.
We ate in the evening at 7pm. Evening bookings are for the ‘Panoramico’ restaurant only, which is up a spiral staircase. Being here for an early sitting allowed us to get first pick of seats by the window, but rest assured the whole room is very cosy and pleasant. You don’t absolutely need a window seat to enjoy your evening (even if the views are great and everyone raves about them).
The service was excellent with knowledgeable staff explaining the dishes of the day and helping with wine selections. The food was creative, very tasty and perfectly prepared. Special mention for a starter of sea bass ceviche and a main of stewed beef cheek.
We were there in March but I’m guessing that in the summer months the windows must be opened and then you have an alfresco experience on the rooftops of Lisbon. But whenever you go you will not regret your choice. Make sure to book though! Thanks to the team for a wonderful evening.

Chapito a Mesa was quite near our hotel so we ate there twice - on the first evening in the upstairs restaurant with views over the city and lunch on last day downstairs on the terrace
Both meals were excellent - tuna steak with pepper sauce and sea bass with coriander rice in the restaurant and peri peri chicken on the terrace
The service was good - speaking a little Portuguese helped
