We only stopped here for a drink, having seen a sign in the window advertising “Portuguese Craft Beer”. Our exceptionally friendly waiter brought out a selection of bottles from the local Dois Corvos brewery, and explained the attributes of each. We spent the next 90 minutes sampling the (very good) beers. The only things we ate were some bread, olives... More

A wonderful corner for a very small restaurant where courses are well presented, fine testing and surrounded by the harmony of the place which is perfectly integrated with courses well presented with care and attention to details.

Small, Cousy, delicious and intimate place. Worth to try! Strongly recommend to try typical Brazilian dish with an egg on the top and lamb ribs with semolina.

We visited for dinner on my husband's birthday and had a great time. The food was all excellent - prawns for starter with brandy in a spicy sauce, my bacalhau was wonderful and my husband loved his "military beans" dish. This is traditional Portuguese food but the restaurant definitely puts its own spin on it - and we thought it... More

Very friendly waiter that recommended us their local beer; delicious! Soup and cheese platter were also tasty! We stopped there on our way up to the castle, it has a nice and sunny terrace outside

I thought this place was a real shame. The overall quality of the food was really high but a few important details really let it down. We were excited that there was a vegetarian main course on the menu of the day- one of the reasons we had chosen this restaurant when we researched it. While the main course was... More

Amazing restaurant we came to shield from the rain thinking it was really touristy because of the location close to the castle. It was a such a great place, authentic, attentive, really great interior, cool music and great dishes. We didn't want to leave despite the sun breaking through. We loved the gambas, beetroot risotto, beetroot paste, carrot cake, and... More

I'm not sure how well known this place is, as it didn't appear in any of the guide books but I have no ideas why not... It's easy to find, in this popular part of historic Lisbon and a great choice for dinner or drinks. The staff are lovely, the vinho verde is delicious and the food is great... I'm... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
