Really enjoyed eating 'real' freshly cooked Portuguese dishes here. Management and staff very friendly and welcoming. Good choice. Not expensive. Best on this stretch in Belem.

I had grilled sea bass with boiled veggies and a Portuguese white wine. It was absolutely the best. The servings were large and the price was reasonable. Great service. Everyone there could speak English. The tram stop was just across the street to take us back to downtown. Very enjoyable experience.

We visited after a long day in Belem, sat in the counter and ordered one of our favourite snacks, bifanas. They were, by far, the best we have ever tried in Lisboa - and we've had quite a few in the last three years. Everything, from the bread to the excellent pork meat with garlic and piri piri sauce as... More

People staff very gentle and welcoming. Restaurant closed to Jenonimos monastery. The boss recommended me to choose a good grilled bacalao and a good green wine. Perfect choice. For 2 persons 40 euros I think is very good price for the quality.

Os Jeronimos is a fun, delicious, and comfortable restaurant right on the main commercial stretch in Belem. The atmosphere is lively especially because the proprietor and his staff keep it alive! There are mostly tourists eating here (probably because of the Rick Steve's or maybe some other tour book shoutout) but the food does not seem to suffer at all... More

We had the half price (it was 6 euros something) lunch meal, sitting at the counter (i.e. not at a table). We could see the chef grilling our chosen fish (sardines and cod) just to the right of us, in the window of the restaurant. To the left was the proper kitchen and again, the staff were visible - preparing... More

Happened to notice a chef in the window obscured by smoke as we passed by. We popped in and sat at a very small and cramped bar where we were served the best grilled sardines I have tasted with an olive oil, parsley and diced onion dressing. This was accompanied with a beautiful salad. Good value. Great flavours

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
