Food was fine nothing extraordinary. The portions were small for the price. The fríes were not good at all it tasted like fish, i guess the oil was not changed. The waiters were not really nice. In addition, my boyfriend told them it was my...birthday when I booked and wrote especially an email to ask them about it. They didn’t even congrat me nor made something special even if asked before. ( my boyfriend told me afterwards that in his email he told them if nothing was made I would cancel the reservation but they never answered).More

Good prices. Food was delicious. Egg/chorizo and pidgeon pies starts were great. The bread was very tasty with truffle butter and other spreads were tasty. I had a steak sandwich, also tasty. Split 3 desserts... Hazelnut and creme brulee were the best. Good wine selection...as well, even dessert pairings.More

The food was great - the prawns were very fresh and the bread basket and accompaniments were great. Only downside is at almost 9 euros for a scallop starter you would have expected more than one... Despite the good food, I would not come back,...because the service was terrible. When I came in at 6.30pm there was only one waiter and he made me wait 10min even though half the dining room was empty... Then it took another 20min to order... In between my starter and main I waited 40min!! I reminded the waiter twice, the second time saying that if the food is not being made I'd rather cancel and leave (and miraculously after the second reminder the food was ready...) The table next to me arrived 30min later, had starters as well, and got their mains before me. On top of that, it was incredibly difficult to get the waiters' attention and otherwise it felt like my presence was a bother more than anything else. I would say overall the food's taste was great, the price was a little high, and the service was deplorable.. In a city with so many great food options, I would recommend against coming here.More

Well, this is a "bistro" restaurant owned by a famous Portuguese chef. Supposed to be great. Our experience was not. We waited about 20 minutes to even order drinks. Another 20 or 30 for the appetizers to arrive and finally well over an hour from...arrival for the main course. On the plus side, the apps and dessert were excellent. However the main courses were indifferent at best. Vegetables and orange couscous was ok. Scallops were tasteless, possibly even from frozen, and the overall effect was bland. Also we were seated in a corner where the lighting was particularly harsh. Just as an aside my companion informed me there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. I don't know what's going on here but neither the service not the kitchen are performing the way a great restaurant, or bistro, should be. Very disappointing.More

We went for dinner at the Cantinho do Avilez twice during our 4 day stay at Porto. The mushroom risotto was outstanding. We also had a seafood risotto and octopus - both dishes very good. Th he place is packed with tourists, you need reservations.

Booked lunch for 6 persons. Really enjoyed the food and a Supernice winepairing. Will go there for dinner next time for more courses.

Maybe the restaurant has been reading the reviews on Tripadvisor - we had excellent service! Such a lovely restaurant. We enjoyed watching the open kitchen - and the wine recommended by the staff was superb and affordable. Our meal was fantastic. We started off with...pisco sours - and, to be honest, they were worth trekking across town for! For the starter, I had scallops with avocado. The dish was so flavourful - and there were subtle tastes throughout. The avocado was fresh and not mushy. For the main dish I had the grilled octopus. Always a risk, this was the best I have ever had. Absolutely fabulous - and a reason I would go back to Lisbon! For dessert I had the "jar" of raspberries with cheesecake bits. If you heard something that sounded like the roar of a lion on Saturday night in Lisbon, that was me eating this dessert. A lovely evening with great atmosphere. Worth finding.More

We were very well received by the staff, that explained in detail the menu. The meal was not exceptional but it was good, with flavours and neat presentation. The atmosphere is welcoming, beautiful people and many young people. One point to be improved: the service...is slow between dishes. Don't go in a hurry.More

Disappointing! Our friends from England joined us for lunch and the food was acceptable, just! However, the service was slow, inattentive, and you know, maybe I’m out of date, but at 178e for five main courses, coffee, and two bottles of inexpensive wine, I really...expected better. Definitely not a memorable experience.More

No. In general Portuguese people dress nicely for dinner, yet not formal.

You can wear whatever pleases you, no dress code. Usually the Portuguese won’t wear shorts or flip flops when they go out for dinner.
