This is a lovely café/restaurant but very expensive! A small bottle of water is 2.50 euros Food - All the fish meals I have eaten here have been first class excellent sadly I can not say that about the meat. The meat was dry and tasteless. The waiter got our dinners mixed up and we could not tell which was... More

We had read about this lovely art deco café, and we weren't disappointed. The food is fantastic - it is authentic Portuguese fare. Service is excellent, and the art deco décor is wonderful. You can dine inside or outside, the day we were there the outside area was full. Either way, the fabulous atmosphere and beautiful food is a must... More

We stopped by at a reasonably and not too busy time on a Thursday. The coffee was poor, the service nonexistent or sloppy and the drinks very expensive for Lisbon standards. Avoid.

Right on a busy square. Food mediocre but a great place to sit and watch the world go by. No longer cheap, downward spiral of euro has put an end to that !

This place is famous because of the history and can be visited, but don(t go there to taste and enjoy the traditional portuguese dishes. It's expensive, no better than in a fast food. You can go for a cofféé

On a lovely sunny or crisp day, watching the world go by at cafe Nicola is definitely delightful. Fellas grab a drink while the ladies shop in the nearby districts. BUT don't eat here. Food is expensive. For example the rice dishes in big pots for two are €55 where as, if you go to o gaiteiro in the bairo... More

Simply wonderful food, great atmosphere and brilliant service. Had dinner here and really couldn't fault the food or service,be prepared to wait for a table due to the popularity! Pricey compared to other places in Lisbon but the quality of food makes it worthwhile,

We had a lovely day wandering around Lisbon and as the evening drew in we thought about where to have dinner, and then we found Cafe Nicola. Their menu was different from most of the other places in the square and the staff wee very friendly and helpful when asking forr clarity on menu items. I chose a salmon, prawn... More

Had high expectations due to the full tables at the front. Resturants that evoke the spirit of 30's excellence had better deliver and sadly, this one did not. The main problem was poor service. It was as if we were invisible. Were were seated right nearby the waiter's station and despite this, our wine glasses were not topped up, had... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
