Surprisingly not easy to find a good non tourist Portugese restaurants in my neighbourhood and Alpendre was the one I found. By the time of arrival, many customers are finishing their lunches so it was quite comfortable. I had grilled sardines. Nothing fancy just pure good food. The waitors were charming and big sense of humour which was very nice.... More

While strolling in alfama district, we stumbled upon this small restaurant with a simple window full of fish and seafood. We went in and we found a simple and modest place. We felt to have come in the right place to have a typical (non tourist) dinner. This went well beyond our highest expectations. We had courses among the best... More

Walked past this restaurant cos of the tripadvisor label on the window, thought it might be good but it was nothing special. Ordered the cod which took a while to arrive despite being the only customer at the restaurant. The cod seemed like it was old and left over for a few days. Didn't quite enjoy that, and Lisbon has... We hadn't booked but they found us a table for 2 (it was still quite early). Can't fault this restaurant; very friendly staff who were most helpful and helped us with our choices. Fish was excellent as was my companions veal. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Loved this place. Went there after a local recommendation. It's filled with locals too and not just tourists. In a good location in Alfama and easy to find. The service is friendly and they do suggest good things to eat. They do play a few pranks and add to the charm. Love the fish main courses. The sea food mix... More

Thought we would go local whilst in Lisbon, and this place turned out to be fantastic. The food was out of this world, I had veal and was served with enough for 3 people. My wife had sardines and it came with 4 and all the trimmings. The waiters were really good and entertaining. The service was first class. The... More

It is a really nice restaurant that offers all kind of typical fish specialties from Portugal. The restaurant is very small, so a reservation can be helpful. The waiters were very friendly and joking with the guests all the time.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
