Well, I stopped making reviews because, in the end, it does not make such difference. Statistically seen it is the average that counts and the average is what it means: the average. But even then, the average raises expectations and so as a customer you...go "prepared". Well my wife (she is Portugese) wanted to go with me to MONTE MAR for some time. My "average" or "regerence" is Porte St Maria.....So I went with high expectations because the restaurant seems to be always full. The welcome was ok. We chose a place inside the restaurant as the terrasse was fully booked (so they said). Immediately I noted lots of noise of the kitchen (china ware being cleaned or placed) and moreover shouting amongst the servers. The noise was such that we requested to be placed elsewhere. We ended up at the terrasse which was not as fully booked as we were told. The "chief waiter" was doing his best to be popular with clients he knew; we were ignored. A young server finally took care of us. The food was far below the quality expected. The fish was without any taste. Wine service was none and when I asked to be served , they placed the bucket with ice and the bottle next to me so I could serve myself. To me the place appeared to be "cantine-style" without any charm except the view at the sea which is awesome. Well I guess we were not lucky this day. But, we go regularly to Pastorinha, Porte St Maria, Panorama, Fortalez do Guincho.....Monte Mar is not up to expectations in comparison.... Next time better ?More

Went here for family lunch on Sunday, very disappointed. It was not overly busy. First we waited ages for our order to be taken, when the waiter was taking our order it was like he was not listening to our requests and was in a...rush to move on. The drinks and wine came with no interaction at all from the waiter just banged the water down on the table. When the food was delivered only 3 out of the 4 dishes came at the same time so we had to wait a good 5 minutes before the 4th dish arrived and only because we asked where it was, so therefore when we all got to eat ours was cold. The hake fillets were soggy the food was very simply served not decorative very bland. The staff just ignored us when we asked for something they would walk right past the table and ignore us completely. No one asked if our food was ok or topped up the wine. The staff were very off and not friendly at all. From a restaurant charging these prices you would expect better both on the food and service, very disappointed as we have eaten at other Monte Mar restaurants and received a far better meal.More

I visit this restaurant frequently for lunch given its ease of access and proximity to my home. The service is excellent and probably the best thing about this restaurant is its location. It is right on the sea where the big waves break. Sitting outside...when the weather allows this is an absolute delight. The menu is a little boring but I have taken a fancy for their grilled tiger prawns with delicious sauce which I have most of the time having tried various other more standard dishes on the menu like grilled fish, etc. etc. The quality of food in terms of freshness of vegetables and fish served is excellent. I will continue to frequent this one.More

One thing I really hate is people trying to take advantage of crisis situations. I went to Monte Mar after they opened from the covid19 shutdown. We were a group of 9 and two of us decided to have the açorda de marisco , one...of their former specialities. With a price of 68 euro for two you would expect plenty of shellfish. It was a total disappointment. There were a few shrimps, maybe some other shellfish in such small quantities it was impossible to identify and the bread base was a tasteless flour paste. I only ate half of it and when I complained to the waiter about the quality his response was, yes, I can see you did not like it. No excuses, no explanation, no compensation. Not to mention that the service was very slow. A total waste of time and money. Never again.More

What have they done while the restaurant was closed? Did they prepare for a reopening? Definitely not! The table cloths were not ironed and there was NO decoration on the tables, it looked like a Kantine. Not inviting at all. Waiter asked two times if...we wanted the salad with or without onions....our answer was always the same WITHOUT, and what did he bring? With onions of course. The second side dish of broccoli he forgot altogether. Food was good a couple of years ago then it declined, before the crises quality was back up again. Now it’s okay, but nothing more than that. If I have to pay € 38 for a stuffed crab I do not expect to be charged an additional €2,50 for small pieces of bread to go with it. It’s ridiculous. Prices are up, services is bad, food ok ( but you can easily find better ones for a fraction of the price) . The attitude we have met does not deserve a visit in the near future.More

We have been to many many restaurants around here and have had great experiences but when you walk into a place and meet a foul person fight off the bat we walk. We went to grab a bite and have drinks and the lady at...the front desk turned us off with her nasty attitude from word one. Don't need to be made to feel like we are a burden to a hostess in this town.More

Exceptional service. Exquisite grilled fish and delectable vegetables (rare outside of a private house). And the view? Well, suffice to say it’s the only restaurant in Guincho which is ensconced in the cliffs. Breathtaking.

A warm welcome here and we were graciously offered a table for six without reservation (end of November). Comfortable conservatory setting which must have delightful views in the daytime. Waiter was extremely friendly, helpful and relaxed and he helped us choose some wonderful fish and...wine. Bread and buttered mini toasts were delightful. The Grouper is simply spectacular and perfectly cooked served with boiled potatoes. Accompanying extra vegetables were also delicious and freshly cooked...also hot. The frozen hazelnut mousse was a very delicious and unusual recommendation from our waiter. Overall a marvellous restaurant. Go for some incredible seafood!! Obrigado Monte Mar and hope to see you again soon.More

This is how you spoil a planned quiet relaxing meal in what should have been the right setting: seat a couple (prebooked days before) in a non-smoking closed area, and allow smokers to smoke at their tables in same area!! Follow this up by claiming...that it is a non smoking area, and do not request guests smoking Not to smoke. We had to remove ourselves and politely ask the staff to reseat us elsewhere in a smoke free area!. The experience was enough to make the outing a disappointing non-event. Whatever followed was no longer important. No favours needed, but the unreactive and passive manner with which situation was handled is unforgiving for a venue priced as it is. We will not return. There are several world class restaurants in the area with far superior professional service, complying with rules and regulations about seating, smoking and non-smoking areas.More
