We visited on Friday last. You can see that Covid is taking its toll. Everything well prepared for guests / distancing, hygiene etc. We shared a dish of garlic prawns and a plate of prosciutto and went on to have rack of lamb and fillet...steak. We have been eating in Alvor for over 15 years and have visited this restaurant a few years ago so thought we'd book for a meal. We were greeted and seated, then waited...and waited while the waitress chatted to customers. Finally we ordered some drinks...and our food. Our starter came fairly timely, then again we sat and waited. We asked the waitress how long would it be as we had been sat for a long time, nearly an hour. She said she would check and came back to say it was just being started.5 minutes later my food was rushed out to me. then we sat...and waited for my husbands food to arrive for another 5 minutes. I was extremely underwhelmed by the appearance of my food. It had clearly been rushed and thrown onto the plate. The boiled potatoes and vegetables were dry and bland. The whole thing had no seasoning at all. The squid was only just cooked but weirdly burnt in places, not the char grilled loveliness I usually get in Alvor. My husbands curry was just as tasteless. His rice was undercooked, hard and had a funny taste to it. We didn't finish our meal and in fairness were not charged for the main courses. We won't be going back.More
We wanted authentic Portuguese meal our first night in Lagos after 3.5 hour drive from Lisboa eating only rest stop food. Our hotel suggested this place but we never made it our first night, too tired traveling from night before. We opted for dinner last...night and glad we didn't miss it. Everything from service to wine to food was exceptional. Seafood fresh that day, amazing prawns. My spouse, a NYC chef, said the almond tart at the end of the meal was the best she's ever had. Overall an excellent meal from start to finish.More
Very tasty traditional Portuguese cuisine. Octopus and prawns was fantastic. Good wine pairings. Excellent service. Recommended by our hotel which was nearby.
We’ve eaten at the O Alcaide several times any it’s generally been pretty good. However, We were there recently and I ordered the sea bream from the ‘Fish of the Day’. I was served a steak from a large white fish, possibly hake or halibut....When I queried this with the waiter he assured me it was bream, although it definitely wasn’t. Not wanting to cause a scene I ate the hake, or whatever it was, and it was fine but not worth the 24 euros I was charged.More
We ordered 4 different dishes where of 3 meat and 1 fish. The fish and the veal was ok but the lamb racks and the beef tenderloin was raw. When we complained that the meat was raw they first refuse to fix the meals then...the older waiter got angry. His english has a lot more to wish for. Then a younger man who talk limited english came to our table and understand our complaints. After a long waiting we got the same meat back again over cooked and the side dishes was cold. The meat was so over cooked so it was difficult to chew. We complained again and they were getting more upset with us even if they admit that the meat was over cooked and the side dishes was cold. We asked for new dishes and then they told us that we are RETARDED!!!! When we later try to leave and I am going to pay the bill. I accepted to pay for 3 dishes but not for my own. I accepted the amount and was on my way to enter my PIN code in the cash machine it was pulled out of my hands. I asked him what was going on and they told me that they are going to call the police. I wondering why because I am happy to pay for the meal. I got no answer but then the chief came running and took a stranglehold on my neck. I was able to pay for the meal after some discussions and they all stand in the door and was screaming RETARDED after us. The food can be good or bad but the service and experience is the worst I have ever experienced. Don't go to this restaurant ever because there are so many much better places in Lagos. I am travelling the word and eating in restaurant about four or more time per week and have never been close to this before.More

We had steak with pepper sauce and a lasagna, both were delicious. Also the chicken liver pate from the couvert was very good. Service was nice, seemed like a family owned Portuguese restaurant. Highly recommended.
I go to this restaurant twice yearly, always good quality and service. Last night we had a family meal there and it was excellent, the steaks were perfectly cooked and the octopus was the best I've had in the Algarve. Can't wait until our next...visit.More
The pasta lacked of flavour..maybe other dishes are ok because a lot of people recommended this place but for sure not the pasta.
Service was good. Appetizer was a bit heavy on cocktail sauce but yummy.The lamb filet was pre-cut which was a bit of a bummer but also tasty. Shrimp pasta was simple but a bit too oily for our liking. The desserts were fine (ice cream...and tiramisu).More
